On Special Report last week, the Wall Street Journal’s Jason Riley responded to the suspension of public tours of the White House. He said, “It is ridiculous. It is unfortunate… The stunts he’s (the President) pulling here - from releasing illegal immigrants from detention centers, talk about air traffic controller shortages, teacher layoffs. The President’s goal here is to inflict the maximum amount of pain as a result of these sequester cuts in order for the public to help pressure Republicans into agreeing to more tax hikes. We know that is his goal. And we know that every effort that the Republicans have made to try and ease the pain of these cuts, the White House has rejected.”
How does Riley know the President wants to punish the average person with these cuts? Where did he specifically say that? I can’t recall. Baier didn’t say, either.
Not quite.
As soon as Bill O’Reilly calls in his “body-language expert” for a reading on the President, it’ll be official . . .
.
First we hear that these cuts will be insignificant. Next if they do hurt anyone then its the Dems fault for insisting on increasing tax revenues. Finally the cuts being made by the president are designed to harm.
The Republicans misleadingly imply that the cuts will affect the entire budget by only 2.5% across the board, rather than noting that only discretionary spending is affected and this means 10% cuts to some programs.
Republicans ignore the reality that voters are overwhelmingly in support of tax increases, or in this case closing tax loopholes. But Repub’s play the blame game (not THOSE cuts!) instead being the people’s representatives, yet again.
I just would’ve loved to have had the chance to ask Riley exactly what it is he thinks that the GOPers in Congress have seriously done to stop the sequester, especially considering the facts that A) Congress went into a 10-day President’s Day RECESS and coming back with about 3 days left before the sequestration took effect (during which time the GOP did NOTHING) and B) Congress ensured that their fat asses would continue earning their inflated salaries during the time of crisis (which, Riley should remember, was as much the doing of House GOPers as it was Obama’s).
