Sparks flew when Harlan Hill, the Donald Trump supporter Fox loves to present as a Bernie Sanders supporter, got called out as the fake he undoubtedly is by a real Democrat.
Hill, you may recall, claims to be a Bernie Sanders supporter who hates Hillary Clinton so much, he is not only voting for Donald Trump but chairs a group for Democrats supporting Trump. That makes Hill a Fox fave. He has repeatedly been identified as a "Democratic strategist," even as Hill was working for Trump.
The charade didn't work out so well for Hill yesterday, though. Democrat Mark Levine immediately called out Hill as a phony.
LEVINE: Harlan, some of my best friends are Sanders supporters and you're no Sanders supporter. You are clearly a Trump supporter masquerading as a Trump supporter and you're not fooling anybody.
I don't know whether Hill ever was or was not a Sanders supporter but he didn't do anything to convince me of his authenticity here.
Even more damning was how host Leland Vittert didn't have anything to say on the subject. Now, if I was a supposedly objective news host and one of my guests had just labeled the other one as a fraud, I'd either defend his credentials or question them. But not Vittert. He seemed to find the accusation entertaining. Here's his expression as Levine began to go after Hill:
And this perfectly illustrates the thing about Fox News that so many earnest so-called "Democratic strategists" don't seem to get: Fox debates are designed to be political theater - where Republicans are always the heroes and/or Democrats and liberals the bad guys. Information, truth and understanding are never the hosts' goal.
But that's no reason not to enjoy this amusing segment where, for once, a Democrat was on top of the Fox game and beat them at it. From the July 30 America's News HQ.

Bernie has affected the Democratic platform, and he’s not going anywhere but in the face of Congress, the White House and Sunday talk shows. His agenda is alive and well, and hopefully his believers will continue the revolution.

I got loaded last night, the first time in months…and watched fox-nonsense, in my hotel room; because I won’t pay a dime for cable tv and get my blood pressure up needlessly from watching these idiots on the reich wing.
It was SOOOOO obvious how orchestrated this whole sinking network is. It was the Hispanic moderator, whatever her unimportant name might be, and it was laughable. How anyone can watch that network of loons and be so stupid as to think it’s any kind of a legitimate debate.
When the progressive makes a point..the reich wing shill blabbers over him so you can’t hear what he or she is saying, and the large breasted boob that moderates the hour interrupts and cleverly changes subjects when she sees the boat taking on dangerous amounts of water.
Poor, poor theatrics. ONLY can be sold to the weakest of minds the the biggest haters on the planet. Go fox. You’ll be history in two more years or less…once bor retires and vannity is tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail. The scrawny blond bimbo is jumping ship in the next few months. Harlan has a link to an interview he did on FBN with Stu Varney where he admits the only reason he supported Bernie is because he saw it as a “binary choice” between Clinton and Sanders. He chaffs at being referred to as a “Socialist.” Stu just about gives Harlan a hug when he says he’s seen the light and is all in for Trump.

Harlan is a comical fraudster trying to cash in on the partisan fools watching Fox News who can’t get enough red meat to gnaw on.

Hillary’s negatives are sky high so I’ve always articulated the easiest path to beat Trump is to drive down her negatives by 10 points or more rather than drive up Trump’s which can’t get much higher. Note the segment you posted includes a clip of Fox data-mining people calling Hillary corrupt to perpetuate her negatives. She can short-circuit that narrative.
Hillary easily handled every piece of dirt Fox’s Chris Wallace tossed her way. Hillary needs to hit the airwaves. Sure, the media is going to pound on #Benghazi!, Email-gate, etc. but she’s got her responses down pat. She doesn’t even break a sweat with Wallace.
Play Trump’s game. Free air time. A media blitz. Let the public see a relaxed Hillary swipe away the email and #Benghazi! conspiracy theories for the nothing burgers they are. Eventually even Fox will see it’s a loser and quit trying to exploit it.
