Cataclysmic Hurricane Sandy No Reason To Suspend Benghazi Witch Hunt

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on October 29, 2012 · Flag

While much of the United States focuses on coping with a catastrophic storm that could affect 60 million people, Fox News made sure not to interrupt its Benghazi witch hunt what with the election so close and all.

On Fox & Friends this morning, there was this report with the accusatory title: White House goes silent over Libya. You'll notice that the screen grab shows what looks like a city all in flames. Think they wanted to send a message that this is just as important as Hurricane Sandy?

And who was the guest? Why, none other than Romney surrogate Jason Chaffetz, presented merely as a Congressman. As a banner blared, "DODGING THE ISSUE: WHITE HOUSE AVOIDS ANSWERS ON LIBYA," Chaffetz answered such questions from Steve Doocy as, "What's taking so long?" and made responses such as, "We have an administration that's not being held accountable. It has been misleading the public."

You might notice that there's no news here. But Chaffetz and Doocy keep hinting someone should leak mentioning how much they'd love to see the surveillance video.

As I've said before, I agree that a thorough investigation into what happened at Benghazi should be made. And, in fact, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has already appointed an independent panel to do just that. But there is absolutely no urgency about this - unless you're looking to use this tragedy to score political points in a close election next week. And why would you make room for a segment of speculative finger-pointing with a Romney surrogate as the storm of the century bears down on the U.S. if not for the very same reason?

@Aaron: you are entitled to think whatever you want but that does not make it fact. The agenda of that website is clear from its name and they are under no obligation to post the truth and nothing but the truth. Rather the contrary, actually.

I do find it demeaning and offensive to think that nobody within the entire administration would have spilled the beans on a gun-running operation to the jihadists. There’s always somebody only too happy to appear on the teevee and the foxies are delighted to give them maximum face time.

If the meeting at Benghazi was focused on working out ways to provide arms to the trustworthy elements in Syria, may I remind you that Romney was in favour of doing precisely that during the last debate).

Only the investigations will tell but I recall that it took the foxies over a decade to admit that* there were no WMDs in Iraq* I don’t expect their viewers will be exposed to anything that might show the administration in a good light. Just my opinion, of course.

Well, Slanthead certainly isn’t ignoring the storm. His lead guest on radio this afternoon was the discredited, wacko “meteorologist” Joe Bastardi (who is also supposed to be Hannity’s first guest on TV a few minutes from now — but don’t worry, Hannity also promised his usual slimy lies about Benhazi as well as lying that Romney never said Jeep, thanks to Obama, was moving all production to China).

Bastardi, a former Penn State wrestler and bodybuilder (which certainly gives us a clue to his brain size) is know for his debunking of all global climate change theories.

In Bastardi’s feeble mind, there have been no floods in the midwest, or near dust bowls over the past few years. We haven’t had several years of major destruction from wildfires. There have been catastrophic tornados in the last few years, some well out of tornado “season.” Hell, there haven’t been any tornados on the East Coast — twisters in Brooklyn? Nah… just proves the people there are crazy. Bastardi says there’s no proof the Arctic ice is melting at an unprecedented pace. And who cares about the Polar Bears anyway, or the struggling Penguins in Antarctica? The massive flooding in South Asia? Slanthead will be the first to remind us they’re all raghead Muslim terrorists in the first place.

Bastardi is Hannity’s go-to weather guy, for sure. Will Hannity ask Bastardi to explain how the Long Island Sound rose up and floods his North Shore basement bunker (soaking all of Hannity’s munitions and ammo stored there)? Could happen folks, Already right now, the Hudson is overflowing lower Manhattan. And parts of midtown have no electricity.

They were closing bridges and tunnels all day. When Hannity finishes at 10 p.m., will he be able to even drive home? Every single weeknight, after he “tanks up,” he looks forward to getting on the Long Island Expressway with his armour-plated Escalade and running little, hapless hybrids off the road!

Last night, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney both had the balls to say on other outlets that it was apparently a smoking gun that Obama would end his campaign early to oversee the efforts for Hurricane Sandy, but he wouldn’t end it early to spend 24/7 on the Benghazi investigation.

I donno which one is a poorer reflection on them; that they think the president should spend more time on a federal investigation than the people actually conducting it… or that they think an extended investigation of an embassy attack is more important and helping up to 60 million people.

And I’m willing to bet that we’ll see more about Newt’s comment, including interviews staged solely for him to repeat his comment, but the most we’ll see out of the Romney comment is that Fox Nation will find it “Inspiring” if they post the video.

Wait, that’s a sucker’s bet- and we all know it.

Benghazi = Obama’s Watergate
Hurricane Sandy = Obama’s Katrina
So ordered by Jabba T. Ailes for the entire Fux Noise network until November 6.

mj, Naturally they won’t admit the failure of the Bush administration’s handling of Katarina. They don’t want to remind voters of that, and hopefully the lesson was learned on how not to do it.

As a resident of California who has dealt with earthquakes, wildfires, floods and mudslides, my thoughts go to all and I hope for your safety to all of you in the path of this monster. I know it’s impossible to ask this since we’re so close to the election, but I really do hope politics can be put aside and all can come together to provide the relief and help the victims will need. Nothing else matters.

@doors17: “It would not surprise me in the least if Fox and the entire right wing radio media will soon be selling Obama’s and FEMA handling of the hurricane as Obama’s Katrina.”

Of course, if they do, they’ll be admitting — albeit tacitly and belatedly — that Dumbya f*cked up the Katrina response.

Whether or not they’ll realize that, is another matter . . .

.

I think what they’ll do is accuse Obama of using response to play politics and distract from Libya. If they can find a dime wasted, so much the better for their screeching. But, but, but they’ll have to play it carefully in order to hide their own political calculations. Which is why it’s more important than ever to blog, tweet, FB, etc. about Fox News’ perfidy.

It would not surprise me in the least if Fox and the entire right wing radio media will soon be selling Obama’s and FEMA handling of the hurricane as Obama’s Katrina. It won’t matter if it’s not true, just whatever illusion they can create this close to the election.

I can’t imagine them congratulating the administration if things good well or to remind those in need the importance of FEMA, especially since Mitt has already said he wants to do away with it. They’ll use the tragedy of others to their advantage.
