Ben Carson Plays The Victim After Attacking Obama As ‘Raised White’

Don’t tell me that Dr. Ben Carson didn’t know exactly which dog whistle he was blowing when he told Politico that President Obama was “raised white” and “didn’t grow up like I grew up.” But when asked about it by Megyn Kelly, Carson started attacking the media’s “ridiculous analysis.”

Here’s the relevant part of the Politico article:

“He’s an ‘African’ American. He was, you know, raised white,” said the world-renowned neurosurgeon, whose single mother worked three jobs – and occasionally relied on government aid – to elevate Carson and his older brother from the grinding poverty of ghetto life.

“I mean, like most Americans, I was proud that we broke the color barrier when he was elected, but … he didn’t grow up like I grew up … Many of his formative years were spent in Indonesia. So, for him to, you know, claim that, you know, he identifies with the experience of black Americans, I think, is a bit of a stretch.”

The next day, on MSNBC, Carson doubled down:

”The fact of the matter is he did not grow up in black America, he grew up in white America, doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just that when the claim is made that he represents the black experience, it’s just not true.”

MSNBC reporter Jane C. Timm further noted:

Carson long dismissed questions about race as divisive and downplayed his own race, but in recent weeks he’s dug into race as a campaign issue, running ads against affirmative action in South Carolina and condemning black crime as “a crisis” that only he knows how to overcome.

Timm also pointed out that last fall, Rupert Murdoch tweeted, “Ben and Candy Carson terrific. What about a real black President who can properly address the racial divide? And much else.”

It’s ironic that after Fox News has spent so much time smearing Obama as too black, now Carson is promoting the idea that Obama’s not black enough.

During her town hall last night, Kelly told Carson that "some well-known African American commentators" suggested that his comments play "into a narrative that there is some sort of correct or legitimate way of doing blackness, of being black.”

Carson’s reply was, basically, “Moi?”

CARSON: My response is that that’s hogwash. Basically, in the conversation, and a transcript is available, I said that his experience in growing up is vastly different than most African Americans. And I don’t know who could really argue with that. You know, he was raised by his white grandparents in Hawaii, in a very affluent area in a private school.

Kelly’s pushback was just as lame. “But he looks black.” Not “Obama identifies as black” or, more importantly, asking why his unusual upbringing should matter.

Carson continued doubling down while pretending he had been misunderstood.

CARSON: And he – formative years were spent in Indonesia. …From 10-14. Those are formative years. With his white mother. Now, for anybody to tell me that that’s a typical black experience [the crowd laughed and applauded], you know, it’s basically the media doing what they always do.

You know, they take a simple statement that I made and they say, “So therefore, he’s saying that it’s bad to be raised white, so that’s a racist statement and he’s saying that there’s some other racism against blacks” and on and on they go with their, you know, just ridiculous analysis which is only for one purpose and that’s to try to ridicule me and to drive wedges. They do it all the time. People ought to be used to it by now.

You may recall that Kelly has swooned over Carson’s prior claim to reject “all of this victimization” in our culture. But rather than challenge this obvious victim card from Carson now, she changed the subject.

Watch it below, from the February 24 The Kelly File.

Not black enough, or not poor enough? Carson seems to have studied Trump’s playlist for getting free media time.

And you shouldn’t hold your breath …Carson KNOWS that he’s going no further in this “race” … he’s got to keep the grift going!

He’s playing to the remaining white folks paying attention to him and the Black Christians who are still clinging to his fame as a successful … Black Christian!

THAT is worth 10’s of millions of dollars to him over the next 5 years or so.

He’s gettin’ his money on!!!

So, it would be so wonderful if someone were to ask Carson, “Then, does this mean your poor performance in the GOP primaries and caucuses is proof that Republican voters are racists who don’t like any Black people?”

It should then be followed up with some more opportunities for Carson to put his foot even further in his mouth and to dig his political grave even deeper.

Everything you wrote is true …however …let’s always remember Carson’s intentions and sole goal … the grift! A grifter is gonna grift and Carson is just the latest grifter griftin" white folks out of millions of their dollars!

The GOP/Republican presidential candidate grift is THE high plains grift of the modern era!

It is the ONLY reason we know these names, Palin, Huckabee, Santorum, Gingrich, Perry, etc.

Think about it …what have these folks EVER done noteworthy to be remembered?

Did any of them ever have a REAL chance at being ELECTED to the highest office in the land? (Palin had a chance ONLY because of Johnny Mack)

So, according to Carson, Obama is more white than black.

Does this mean he’s not black? And that the racist base will consider him white because, as Carson says, he grew up white?

yeah, I won’t hold my breath …

I’ve seen probably half a dozen Ben Carson interviews, some outside of the comfortable womb of Fox News but none particularly hard. Yet, invariably some issue will arise where he’s quoted on a subject he’s a bit bonkers on and the response is always the same. That’s not what I said. The media keeps getting what I say wrong. This what I really meant. Oh, that’s just as crazy? You’re obviously misunderstanding me in full context even now so how can I come up with a third interpretation or policy direction that doesn’t scream crackpot? 👍

It was so easy before he announced his candidacy. Just get softballed by some Fox News personality who would prop Ben up by ignoring his inconsistencies. But Fox is a little more serious now because they want to crown a winner for the general election.

Not saying Fox presses too hard even here. The network constantly bashing Democrats for playing the race card and being divisive with identity politics is noting some of this here but Megyn isn’t bashing buddy Ben for it. Just personalizing it by pointing out his inconsistency on the topic.

Uncle Ben’s act has become extremely tiresome - and predictable. You just can’t keep saying stupid crap and then blame it on the media, or Egyptian grain silos - or can you?

Uncle Ben = Herman Cain 2.0. Minus all of the groped white women. I think.

This guy has figured out a way to get on TV a lot. But he hasn’t figured out a way to get votes. He is this year’s Herman Cain. Look for him to become a Fox staple after he decided to give up the ghost. Sorry, Huck and Santorum. You won’t be back.
