Why Fox News Almost Certainly Knew That Cliven Bundy Was A Nutjob Before His Racist Comments Were Published By The NY Times
An article in yesterday's Esquire asks the question early on, "Exactly how difficult was it, though, to determine pretty early on that (Cliven) Bundy and his followers were using the threat of force to back up some terrifyingly misguided beliefs?" The answer is pretty obvious soon thereafter. If anything, the tough thing would have been to miss it. And yet, despite having at least two reporters on scene and nightly chats between Bundy and host Sean Hannity, Fox somehow kept portraying Bundy as a modern-day Gandhi or Thoreau.

It’s been clear from the start that O’Reilly was never a Cliven Bundy fan. But now that Bundy has been completely discredited as a racist – instead of just a lawbreaking America hater – O’Reilly feels sorry for the guy. Not only that, O’Reilly thinks Bundy is just ignorant and not really a racist. To top it all off, O’Reilly told his African American guest, Democrat Basil Smikle, that he and Bundy would be friends if only Smikle would give him a chance. Seriously.

There were so many gems in Ed Schultz’ opening to The Ed Show last night, it’s impossible to list them all. The best way to describe it is, Hannity gets exactly what he deserves.
Read moreOn America Live: Fox VP, John Moody Dismisses Catholic Clergy Abuse Victims As 'Bitter People?'
With its large stable of conservative Catholic hosts and its support for the teachings of the conservative Catholic bishops, it does seem like Fox News is a media arm for the Catholic Church. Nobody embodies Roger Ailes love for the Magesterium than Ailes' *"surrogate," Fox VP, John Moody, a devout pro-life Catholic conservative, whose views appear to suffuse Fox's religious content. Because he is **concerned about what he perceives as anti-Christian bias in the mainstream media, he obviously wants to put a positive spin on Christian issues, such as when he and official Fox "news" anchor and fellow Catholic, Martha MacCallum gushed about Pope Benedict without a mention of the Catholic pedophilia scandal. This morning, during a lovefest for the two Popes who will be canonized, the sexual abuse crisis was not only framed as a euphemism, but the victims were trashed. Mirabile Dictu?
Read moreStephen Colbert: Bundy And Hannity Go Together Like ‘Ku’ And ‘Klux’
Stephen Colbert took his turn last night at skewering Sean Hannity for his slobbering coverage of lawbreaking, America-hater - and newly exposed racist - Cliven Bundy. “Hannity ate up that story so hard, Bundy should have charged him grazing fees,” Colbert quipped. Although not quite as epic as Jon Stewart’s two masterful takedowns, Colbert’s was pretty darned good. Especially that last line.
Read moreHannity Discusses Bundy’s Racist Comments: Some Of My Best Guests Are Black!
Sean Hannity took no personal responsibility tonight for his role in promoting lawbreaking Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy as some kind of modern day Zorro. Instead, Hannity focused on distancing himself from Bundy’s “repugnant” comments about African Americans, once again swept his own inflammatory rhetoric under the rug and – oh, yeah, made a big effort to convince people he’s not a racist. It wasn’t a bad effort. That is, if you don’t know a lot about Hannity’s past.
Read moreCliven Bundy Not The First Slavery Lover Hannity Has Cozied Up To
With all the focus on Cliven Bundy's shocking comments "just wondering" if African Americans were better off under slavery, this seems a good time to remind people that Bundy is not the first or even the second slavery apologist Hannity has found as a kindred spirit. Hannity's pal, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson has said, "Thank God for slavery" and likened slave ships to flying coach in an airplane: "It’s a tough ride. But you’re happy when you get to your desitination." Hannity also repeatedly welcomed white supremacist Hal Turner on the radio who said "black people would still be swinging on trees in Africa," were it not for slavery.
Read moreSteve Doocy, Juan Williams Whine About Media Matters Tax Exemption - Again!
While the "fair & balanced" Fox News has no problem disseminating right wing propaganda, they do have a huge problem getting called out about it by Media Matters. Back in 2011, they launched a full court press against Media Matters which included a vicious personal attack on its founder, David Brock, framed as a psychological evaluation by Fox Medical A Team member Keith Ablow. In playing the victim of the Media Matters meanies, Fox claimed that the organization was political and, therefore, not eligible for a tax exemption. Fox viewers were urged to sign a petition to file a complaint with the IRS about MMFA's tax status. On Fox & Friends, Juan Williams validated the Fox whine. In a great example of how the more things change, the more they remain the same, Juan Williams was back on this morning's Fox & Friends to continue just where they all left off.

Fox’s Your World opened yesterday with a 10-minute interview with Texas Governor Rick Perry. The entire segment was clearly designed to show off his Republican awesomeness and potential presidential candidacy. So there was not a peep of challenge when Perry sang the praises of fracking.

As we know, the comment section of Fox Nation is a veritable sewage pit of racist hate directed towards African Americans and, in particular, Barack and Michelle Obama who, on occasion, are the recipients of death threats from the patriotic citizens of this Fox media apartheid state. Today, one of the Fox Nation threads is taken from Greta Van Susteren's blog, the Greta Wire. It is titled "Greta: Let Me Make This Plain: I Condemn What Cliven Bundy Said About African Americans." There is NO section for comments. Obviously, Jesse Watters knows his readers very, very well.
