Fox’s Todd Starnes: Obama Using Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman Case To ‘Tear Apart’ The Country
Sean Hannity brought back his “studio audience” last night which, as usual, was stacked with those who agree with him. In this case, the subject was Fox News’ Victim Of The Year, George Zimmerman. Predictably, Hannity used Zimmerman’s recent acquittal to race bait against African Americans and President Barack Obama. But Fox’s Todd Starnes did his part above and beyond anything Sean Hannity likely hoped for.

If you’re a regular O’Reilly Factor watcher, you know that Bill O’Reilly has been on a tear about black crime as somehow “mitigating” racial profiing. It’s pretty infuriating because, when you look at the statistics, whites handily outdo blacks as criminals. It’s not even close. But O’Reilly has been holding himself up as some kind of racial truthteller by insisting that he’s reporting facts others dare not. And he’s using that, along with others on Fox, to further malign African Americans by suggesting that they should focus on black criminals instead of George Zimmerman. However, Tavis Smiley visited The Factor tonight and set O’Reilly straight.

On yesterday’s Your World, former INS agent Michael Cutler argued that immigration reform would cost Americans jobs. Stuart Varney started by briefly arguing the other side: “They say 11 million illegals in this country are doing jobs that Americans do not want to take. So if you pass immigration reform, it doesn’t cost Americans jobs. What do you say?” That allowed Cutler to open the floodgates of fear mongering.

The phrase, "you just can't make this stuff up," comes to mind when dealing with anything said on Fox & Friends, "the morning happy-talk show that Ailes uses as one of his primary vehicles to inject his venom into the media bloodstream." But the sad reality is that those on Fox & Friends do make stuff up whether it's their own stuff or stuff from other lying, propaganda based websites. Such was the case, in June, when the gang on the curvy couch appeared to source their outrage du jour from "Breitbart," a site not exactly know for a high standard of journalism. The topic was an iteration of another popular Fox & Friends lie, the "Obama Phone," which is just another fanciful right wing lie (cited during this segment) about how those on welfare (read "Black") are getting free phones courtesy of the Obama administration. That just isn't true and neither was Steve Doocy's claim, on Fox & Friends, that the Obama administration will be giving out cars as part of the immigration bill. Geeese, I thought only Oprah did that!
Read moreZimmerman’s Brother: No Remorse But He’d Give Trayvon Martin’s Family A Hug If He Ran Into Them
George Zimmerman’s brother, Robert, appeared on On The Record last night where he spoke condescendingly of Trayvon Martin’s family, made race-baiting comments about their attorneys, offered no remorse over the tragic situation that took their son – and instead focused on how difficult it is for the Zimmerman family to live with the burden of having “had to take someone’s life.” Predictably, Greta Van Susteren didn’t challenge a word of that jaw-dropping heartlessness, nor did she tell viewers about any of the racist tweets Robert Zimmerman has sent since George shot and killed African American Martin.
Read moreHannity: Didn't George Zimmerman Take One To The Prom?
In the middle of an interview with George Zimmerman's defense attorneys in which Sean Hannity was trying to prove Zimmerman is not a racist, Hannity let his own feelings about African Americans slip when he said, "Didn't George Zimerman... take one to the prom?"
Read moreFox Nation Still Demonizing Trayvon Martin
Apparently, the acquittal of their guy, George Zimmerman, was not good enough for those "civil" and "tolerant" folks at Fox Nation. They're not only continuing to use Zimmerman to racially attack President Obama, they're still demonizing Trayvon Martin.
Read moreFox Nation: The Worldwide Web Arm Of The George Zimmerman Fan Club
Fox Nation says it is "committed to the core principles of tolerance, open debate, civil discourse, and fair and balanced coverage of the news. It is for those opposed to intolerance, excessive government control of our lives, and attempts to monopolize opinion or suppress freedom of thought, expression, and worship." We have already amply demonstrated how laughable their "commitment" to tolerance and/or civility is. Click through to the next page for their idea of "fair and balanced" coverage of the George Zimmerman verdict - from the standpoint of white people only.
Read moreFr. Jonathan Morris Says 'Shameless' Civil Rights Leaders Played 'Racial Card' In Zimmerman Trial
While I don't know if Fox News is paying any attention to how the killing of Trayvon Martin is part of the greater issue of being black in a still racially polarized America, African-American journalists and pundits are discussing it on networks that don't claim to represent America, as does Fox News. But while you'd expect race baiters like Sean Hannity to whitewash the issue, you'd also expect a Catholic priest to handle it a little more sensitively such as the Jesuit priest, on the Melissa Harris-Perry show, who talked about the importance of community. Not so for official Fox priest, Fr. Jonathan Morris who, yesterday, used this tragedy to, no, not talk about the glaring social issues that are reflected by the case, but to attack folks like Al Sharpton and other civil rights leaders without whose non-violent activism there might not have even been an arrest. As usual, his words were couched in sweet platitudes about "forgiveness." But his underlying message was, as usual, more toxic, right wing and arguably race baiting agitprop. Render to Ailes!
Read moreGeraldo Rivera Still Blaming Trayvon Martin For His Own Death
Geraldo Rivera visited Fox & Friends this morning where he once again demonstrated his version of promoting race relations, this time by continuing to blame Trayvon Martin for his own death, saying, "You dress like a thug, people are going to treat you like a thug." Rivera also again suggested that President Obama’s pandering to the black community brought about the wrongful prosecution of George Zimmerman – once again presented as the real victim in this tragedy.
