Fox & Friends: Jason Mattera "Accosted" In "Confrontation" With "Hypocrite" Mayor Bloomberg's "Bullies"
Jason Mattera, as reported by NewsHounds Ellen, is a James O'Keefe wannabe who has an unsavory history of homophobia and other assorted right wing nastiness including a CPAC speech in which smeared President Obama as a cocaine user. He recently tried to confront NY Mayor Bloomberg about his "hypocrisy" in advocating gun control while utilizing the services of an armed guard - the need for which was underscored by Mattera's histrionic attempt to get in the mayor's face. Mattera is upset that Bloomberg's security detail deftly moved him away from the mayor. So Fox News, as a mouthpiece for those who oppose gun control, embraced Mattera. Last night, his cause was taken up on Hannity. This morning's Fox & Friends showed their support for this "investigative journalist." Don't ya love the smell of right wing solidarity in the morning!

Given that the GOP Christian right wing is militantly anti-abortion, it's not surprising that Fox News is a propaganda arm for the anti-abortion lobby. And we're not just talking Fox "opinion" shows which, in the delusional world of Fox are exempt from Fox's "fair & balanced" descriptor, but Fox "news" programs which also provide validation for anti-choice views such as opposition to the HHS birth control mandate. Last year, alleged Fox News host Shannon Bream provided warm affirmation for an "abortion survivor." Last week-end, she provided an uncritical promotion of a new reality series. No, not real housewives or wild redneck women - but an internet series about Christian women who feel shame about their sinful abortions. But as a "fair & balanced" news network, Fox would never promote a right wing agenda. Ya think!

Remember Jason Mattera? He's the smarmy James O'Keeffe wannabe who was so obnoxious that he had Bill O'Reilly siding with his arch enemy Al Franken over one of Mattera's previous stunts. More recently, “I'm fighting the culture war over here instead of fighting terrorists over there” Mattera ambushed New York's Mayor Michael Bloomberg to “ask” if he'd disarm his security team in the wake of tougher gun laws in New York. For his trouble, the Mayor's security team followed Mattera and began asking questions – which had the chickenhawk squawking about being a victim. That's what makes a hero on Fox News.

On January 23, 2013, Bill O'Reilly read an email from a woman reacting to his segment on late-term abortion (in which he once again defamed Dr. George Tiller). In response to the woman's criticism of men interfering with women's reproductive choices, O'Reilly scolded: My job is to protect the kids and I will continue to do it.

In my last post, gentle reader, I noted that President Obama, in an interview with the New Republic, criticized Fox News and Rush Limbaugh for contributing to the dysfunction and intransigence in Congress. This morning, Fox and Friends entertained both Fox's "legal analyst" Peter Johnson, who said Obama was singling out the conservative media, and Ben Shapiro of breitbart.com, who upped the absurdity level by claiming the President was out to silence them.
Read moreFr. Jonathan Morris "Siding With The Atheists?" Oh, Noooo........
On occasion, guests on Fox News programs go off the requisite right wing script. And when the guest goes rogue, the interviewers, who aren't getting the desired propaganda results, get a bit flummoxed. Such was the case when NJ Chris Christie didn't feed Steve Doocy with the desired Obama bashing that Doocy's question was meant to elicit. Even resident Fox priest Fr. Jonathan Morris, who can usually be relied on for validation of right wing talking points, didn't totally agree with the script about the "War on Christmas." His hosts were taken aback by Morris' comments about the silliness of the bogus Fox "war" which they were obviously promoting. Yesterday, the gang on the curvy couch was all set and ready to go with one of their favorite memes about how political correctness has "gone too far." When Fr. Morris didn't take the bait and proceeded to offer a shockingly correct analysis, the friends were definitely thrown off their game.

On Saturday's Bulls and Bears (1/26/2013), the topic was the approval of the Keystone Pipeline in Nebraska. Host Brenda Buttner could not have sounded more enthusiastic about that development as she opened the discussion. Her tone turned disapproving as she noted that there's “still no decision” from the White House. She added, “Gary B. (Smith), you say it's a no brainer for our economy, huh?”

Sarah Palin may have turned down an offer by Fox to renew her contract there but in an interview one day later, she dropped her interest in getting a media gig.

Oh dear, gentle reader, I fear a storm is brewing. In an interview with the New Republic, released this morning, President Obama criticized some elements of the media - naming Fox News by name - for helping to feed the Republican obstructionism and hostility that marked his first term in office. And I can already hear the first ominous rumblings of thunder in the distance.
Read moreFox & Friends Advances Fox News Whine About Military Aid To Egypt
Pass the cigars and balloons because I do declare that the "fair & balanced" Fox News has given birth to yet another right wing theme based on right wing outrage over a military aid package to Egypt that includes some F-16 fighters. The opposition to the aircraft is based on concerns that because Egypt's president has made some nasty comments about Jews, he will use these planes against Israel. Rep. Senator McCain allayed these fears during an interview with Sean Hannity; but his was a lone voice on Fox whose coverage has a different POV as seen on Fox Nation and the Fox News website which had an article by the biased and homophobic Maxim Lott who categorizes the planes as a "gift" to "the Muslim Brotherhood." Even Fox & Friends is in on the festivities with an appearance by an outraged Louie Gohmert and an outraged Muslim Zhudi Jasser - its resident anti-Islamic Muslim. Fox News - Fair & Balanced as always!
