Fox News Website "Bias Alert" Is Not Only Biased, But Ironic?

Posted by Priscilla -26.60pc on October 18, 2012 · Flag

The Fox News website has a new front page feature. Every day, there is a secondary lede titled, in bold red letters,"Bias Alert" which consists of articles about how the evil, librul media is engaging in bias when, of course, the "fair & balanced" Fox News network would never, evah do such a thing. Right?! But the fact that a number of the articles, written by writers from the spectacularly biased, right wing Media Research Center headed by the spectacularly biased, right wing Brent Bozell, would seem to indicate otherwise. Fox's own writers do contribute to the efforts towards ferreting out this so called "bias" - such as yesterday's article, sourced from Bozell's "Newsbusters" website, about Chris Matthews' statement that Romney's abortion position is similar to Sharia Law. Oh, the humanity. But, interestingly, those employed at the "fair & balanced" "news" network have also engaged in the same kind of hyperbole.

Just a few examples worth noting. Shortly after the 2009 election, Sean Hannity predicted that President Obama would lead us down the road to socialism. And then there were Glenn Beck's ongoing attacks on the president as aCommunist, racist, Muslim etc. How bout Mike Huckabee's accusation that the president supports "infanticide" and Bret Baier's advancement of that narrative?

So "bias alert" - Pot meet kettle?

Oh, and today's big bias alert - the US Weekly Magazine's headline that "blared" the cost of Ann Romney's dress that she wore to the debate. While the headline didn't include the costlier couture worn by the First Lady, it was in the fourth sentence into the short article. Such bias!

@Joseph: until fairly recently the Catholic Church had the same position on when a fetus could be considered a person. I believe it was St. Thomas Aquinis who used to be quoted as the authority on the matter.

@Nayef: It’s really not surprising that GOPers are ignorant of Islam but even of the official BIblical stances on life. The Bible (most notably, in the Old Testament—the “Jewish” Bible as it were) specifically noted that the developing fetus was NOT a human, at least, not until the “quickening”—or what most people would now refer to as “when the baby first kicks.” “Quickening” in this case is of the same usage as the older English text of the Christian Nicene Creed—“to judge the quick and the dead,” meaning “the living and the dead.” (Most modern English language versions specifically use the word “living,” though it does differ by denomination.)

Also, since the proper medical term for “miscarriage” has long been “spontaneous abortion”—something which has distressed a number of “devout” Christians for many years (there are anecdotal stories of anti-choice women arguing with their doctors’ using “spontaneous abortion” on medical documents for miscarriage)—it’s only apparent that God his own self doesn’t get all that bothered by the matter.

Brent Bozell has been discredited for years. Ever since his MRC and PTC were sued by WWE and suffered a humiliating loss (including paying the WWE millions of dollars and being forced to publish a humble apology), I haven’t taken them as experts on anything.

Sharia Law allows abortion in many cases and life is not believed to start right at the first day of pregnancy.

Ignorance of Islam is rampant not just among republicans, but also democrats. Perhaps before Chris Mathews states that A = B he may want to look up the set of rules in A and the set of rules in B first.

“Before the fetus has a soul, abortion is legal if pregnancy endangers the mother’s life. The Head of the Guardian Council once inquired the view of Imam Khomeini (when he was alive) if abortion was legal (before the fetus has a soul) in cases where doctors are certain or when they fear that the continuation of pregnancy would kill the mother. In response to the question, Imam Khomeini said not only it is legal but it is also necessary. Even though in penal code, abortion is considered a crime, when it is done to save the mother’s life (before the fetus is infused with life), it is regarded legal.”
