Remember how Hannity was complaining a few days ago about the sleazy Obama campaign playing the race card on Mitt Romney? You may recall I said in my post that was a “tell” that Hannity was about to do the same thing. Sure enough, a little later on the same show, Hannity was suggesting that Michelle Obama was some kind of black radical whose views (and by extension, her husband’s) had heretofore been hidden from the public.
On Thursday, August 16, 2012, Hannity began the segment with the announcement, “Tonight the Daily Caller has uncovered an eye-opening document that serves as a pressing reminder why we, the American people, deserve to see all of President Obama’s college records.”
What was so “eye-opening” and “pressing?”
Now, the Daily Caller got its hands on a memo that was written by First Lady Michelle Obama for Harvard’s Black Law Student Association back in 1988. Now, we have spoken to the author of the article, Charles C. Johnson, and he told us that the memo was sent to him by a Hah-vahd (“regular guy” Hannity said it with disdain) librarian. Now Johnson says in the article Michelle Obama argues for race-based and gender-based faculty hiring. She reportedly said in the memo, quote, ‘The faculty’s decision to distrust and ignore non-traditional qualities in choosing and tenuring law professors merely reinforces racist and sexist stereotypes.’
Apparently, Hannity thought that was enough of a suggestion of racism in Michelle Obama to make it an “eye-opening” and “pressing” need to find out what President Obama must be hiding in his own college records. To validate that view, “RELEASE YOUR RECORDS” blared on the right side of the screen during the discussion.
Democrat Penny Lee was nicely effective at the beginning. Rather than go on defense, she went straight to questioning why Mitt Romney hasn’t released his tax returns and – even better – questioning Hannity if he’s asked for them. When Hannity blustered and tried to bully her back into the narrative he was trying to frame, Lee said, “What does this have to do? …Look, I voted for Ronald Reagan. I advocated for Ronald Reagan when I was in college. I absolutely would not now.”
The other guest was Koch Brothers Tea Party loudmouth, Jennifer Stefano. Predictably, she was totally eager to suggest there must be something sinister going on. “Oh my goodness… Their philosophy, who they associate themselves with, who they follow, that determines what their policies are going to be when they are an elected official.”
Funny, I thought their policies were determined by their actual policies when they were elected. President Obama has been in office for four years and last I checked, Michelle Obama is not.
But like David Limbaugh before her, Stefano was on her hypocritical high horse whining about Democratic divisiveness, including racial divisiveness, as she didn’t just ignore the divisive race card being played under her nose but joined in the game. “He has truly ripped this country apart,” Ms. “Uniter” harangued.
But Hannity deliberately tried to make the discussion more racially tinged. “Do we we end discrimination with institutionalizing it?” He was not just arguing against affirmative action but suggesting that those who support it want to “institutionalize” racism. “Why should (white people and/or women) pay the price for past wrongs or injustices?”
Unfortunately for Hannity, even the normally low-brow Stefano didn’t want to get in the racial mud he was trying to entice her into. Instead of attacking Michelle Obama as being anti-white, which is where Hannity was surely trying to go, Stefano argued that Mrs. Obama was demeaning minorities by not putting them on a level playing field. Lee strenuously debated that point, too. But she made it clear she had not read either the Daily Caller article or the Obama memo they were debating. Stefano had.
Hannity ended the discussion by saying, “I’m only saying it’s simple. President transparency. Release your college records. You have nothing to hide. Let’s see how smart you are. I’m just curious.”
Outbursts and tantrums like this from Hannity are likely to continue and worsen as we get closer to the election, if his behavior in 2008 is any guide. The clearer it gets that Romney is going to lose, the more desperate Hannity’s attacks will become. And I’m very much looking forward to how he’s going to eat the crow on camera on the day after the election. Of course, I wouldn’t put it past him to take that night off and have Monica Crowley sub for him, or just have the network run a clip show.
Put a hood on him.
Well, Sean….he’s the elected President of these here United States. You’re a hate-jock on a network that fought to have the right to broadcast lies. Guess who the world will remember in 100 years?
If you still need a college transcript to measure intelligence, you’re just going to have to remain in the dark. By the way…have you released yours???
I’m only saying it’s simple too, Sean:
If you want to see the records, take it up with Columbia and Harvard. Those are PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS who do not release student records to a non-relative . . .
Doesn’t Hannity know that members of the military are still being wounded and dying in Afgahnistan? What’s the hold-up and what happened to the “Freedom Concert’s?”
Show us your college records Klannity. Oops I forgot for a sec, his grades suffered because of all of his liberal professors.
