Just one day after Glenn Beck portrayed himself as a uniter, contrite about his past as a divider, he was back on The Kelly File with incendiary rhetoric about President Obama’s “dangerous use of power” and concern trolling that there might be some kind of political violence that would “overthrow” a political party. Host Megyn Kelly listened with rapt, unchallenging attention.
Tonight, the third part of an interview aired on The Kelly File, Kelly asked Beck about Obama’s statement that he’ll “act alone” if Congress won’t work with him. “He’s got a pen, Glenn, a pen and a phone,” Kelly prodded. As if she didn’t know about Beck’s incendiary rhetoric about Obama.
“And he’s demonstrated that he will use it,” Beck replied. He added that Obama will use his phone to call “his friends at universities which have turned into nothing more than activist sites.”
Kelly plastered an expression of thoughtful consideration on her face as Beck made his first stab at demagoguery:
This is a dangerous use of power. And I want to make it really clear. I mean everybody – everybody knows where I stand on the president but I will tell you I warn against Congress and both parties as well. We’re coming up to a presidential election and I think this is an awful lot of power for people to relinquish and I haven’t seen the character of George Washington stand up but that’s what it would take.
Somebody who says, “I can just get it done.” That’s not what the republic is. That’s not what our Constitution says. That’s not what the American people want. We don’t want a group of people in Washington who are pitting people against each other and then saying, “I’ll get it done for you.” No, no, no, no, please. Leave us alone. Let us take care of it. Let us take care of each other. Let’s have reasonable conversations but we’re not having that in Washington.
But rather than step in to turn down the flame, Kelly helped turn it up. She conflated ObamaCare with criminality by “asking” if there might be some kind of “move away” from executive power in the wake of “ObamaCare’s failures,” Governor Chris Christie’s Bridgegate scandal and the indictment of Governor Bob McDonnell.
Beck thought so. Then he added:
I hope that we don’t have to have, you know, any kind of nasty event to do it - like, you know, in – I think it was 1856, Senator Sumner went to the well of the Senate and he was speaking out against slavery and what he said, basically, he was like, “You know, both you guys.” The Republicans are the Whigs and the Democrats. “Neither of you guys are going to solve this. Neither of you are going to do it.”
…There were about 20 new Republicans. And the event that brought everything together was a beat down in the well of the Senate and a House member came over and beat Senator Sumner with the butt of his cane almost to death In fact, nobody tried to stop him in the Senate.
Kelly broke in to do a little Beck PR. "You’re not advocating for this. You don’t want to see us become, you know, some of these foreign countries where we actually see that happen..." she prompted said.
But Beck never said he didn’t want to see that happen. In fact, he seemed to want to bring it on.
“But that happened. …But what’s important – without the internet, without television, without anything else, four years later – four years later – a Republican was elected as president of the United States and the Whigs were over.
If the Republicans don’t wake up. If people don’t in Congress - both Republicans and Democrats – wake up and say, “we’re not where the people are” you will have a Whig Party. You will have an overthrow. And the Republicans or the Democrats, or hopefully both of them go the way of the Whig Party and it’s over and a return to the Constitution.
Just last night, Beck told Kelly he regrets having been so divisive on Fox News during his tenure there. I was skeptical that he meant it then. I’m even more skeptical now.
What’s wrong with that logic?
I don’t think it’s a big secret that many forecasters couldn’t predict “daylight” let alone the weather.
Also, how come when the trolls call us “lefty liars” they fail to point out anything that we lied about?
It has been banned.
and convict him of a hate crime when it does.
Lefty Liars avoid using facts and measurable about the theft and treason taking place in dc. But the truth gets out. descent people are speaking up. there are more of us than them.
Washington should remember the “by the window or by the door” policy of our forefathers.
