Yesterday, Forbes on Fox discussed the White House’s plan for a global climate change deal. Of course, the panel hated the idea and predicted economic disaster. But host Elizabeth MacDonald took it a step further by announcing that there’s no scientific consensus about global warming being related to greenhouse gases. She could not be more wrong.
MacDonald said at the beginning of the discussion, “The fact is, there’s no consensus on the part of scientists about global warming related to greenhouse gases just yet.” Apparently thinking she was backing up her assertion, she showed a Rasmussen poll showing that 63% of the 1000 likely voters polled believed the scientific debate about global warming isn’t over, while 20% said it is.
Later, panelist Mike Ozanian said “When he’s (President Obama) presented with science that shows that it’s not clear exactly how much humans cause climate change, he says debate’s been settled it’s over!”
In reality, there is wide consensus among scientists about the cause of global warming. A recent Salon.com article noted that highly-respected scientist James Lawrence Powell examined 2258 articles over 13 months. He found that out of 9,136 authors, all but one agreed that global warming is happening and man-made.
Either that’s not consensus for MacDonald or she didn’t bother to check her facts before making her pronouncement.
