Why Fox News Closed Its Comments Thread On Trayvon Martin Grand Jury Post

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on April 09, 2012 · Flag

Fox News' Fox Nation website has a post called, Trayvon Martin Case Won't Go Before Grand Jury on its home page right now. But the comments have been closed and are unavailable for viewing. But not before one of our intrepid readers caught some screen captures. One look and you'll know why the thread was closed. What's less clear is whether Fox News really cares about the kind of readership and discussions it engenders.

We've repeatedly posted about vile, racist comments on FoxNews.com and Fox Nation. Many of those comments we've reported to the Secret Service. Yet Fox continues to post stories they must surely know will call forth racial animosity, as they did even today with another post currently on their home page, called, Man Says He Was Savagely Beaten in Trayvon Martin Revenge Attack. In case you didn't get the hint the man is white, Fox tells you, right in the first sentence: "A 78-year-old white man says he was savagely beaten by a gang of six youths shouting: 'This is for Trayvon. Kill that white." The comments section for that post is now closed, too.

Judging from the comments below, from the much more innocuous Trayvon Martin Case Won't Go Before Grand Jury thread, the ones from the "white man savagely beaten" thread must have been whoppers.

@Daz That doesn’t even make sense. You’re not very good at this, so I’ll help:

Q. How many Republicans must you have in order to pass a balanced budget?

A. Zero.

Q. How many dogs can you fit on the roof of a car?

A. I don’t know. Ask Mitt Romney.

Q. How many closet gay Republicans does it take to board a plane?

A. Depends on how many stalls are available in the airport men’s room.

@Hoo I love how the right-wing conspiracy nutjobs keep making excuses for the Fox “News” comments section by saying that all the racist users are actually “liberals trying to discredit Fox and start a race war.”

Sorry to burst your bubble, but these are your people. Racism is not a myth spread by liberals. It is real. Ask any person who has experienced it.

If you really think this is some vast liberal conspiracy to discredit Fox “News” (particularly since they seem to be doing a good enough job of that on their own), then I would strongly suggest you loosen the tin foil wrapped around your head before you suffer a stroke.

These racists don’t make up a majority of Republicans, but you need to stop pointing fingers and take responsibility for the fact that these people are in your ranks.

Stop making excuses. Stop blathering wild conspiracy theories. Denounce these racist idiots and be done with it. Then ask Fox “News” to stop posting content designed to inflame these racists, because while it does give them a nice boost in the ratings, it also encourages them to spam the site with comments, and THAT is what (among many other things) discredits Fox “News.”

Those comments were posted by liberals trying to discredit Fox and start a race war.

Remember Ben Armbruster, that guy who ambushed Jesse at CPAC? I remember that one off-hand, mostly because Jesse stalled until his own camera man was filming and ran a version that made himself look good on Fox Nation.

A couple other guys got him with an ambush that Newshounds talked about, but that’s the one I remember. I’ll look through the archives tomorrow.

Ellen, People have already ambushed Watters. My fav part is how he always has his people turn their cameras on so he can edit his version later.

It’s crap like this that makes me wonder how close to race wars we really are in the US.

Most of these “people” are gutless cowards who hide behind a screen, where they can comfortably spew the hate they’d have no balls to do so in public. Seeing their responses are the highlights of their miserable day, which is filled with Limbaugh/Klannity/Savage talking points and that lunch break in which they “fulfill” their 15-second dream that one of the Faux Fraulines are filling the void that no sane woman would satisfy. It’s said that God blesses children and idiots, which means 98.5 percent of the posters on Faux Nation are in dire need of prayer.

d d, I totally agree someone should ambush Watters for an interview. Gawker tried it a while back and Watters hid like a weasel (You can probably find it somewhere on this site or else Gawker).

As for the moderation, it could well be that a certain number of posts by a commenter have to be approved and after that a commenter’s posts don’t get screened. That was the system we had at the old blog. The first five comments not posted in one day were held for approval and after that all comments from that person went directly to the blog.

I don’t know what the solution for Fox Nation is. I do know that a big, well-to-do operation like Fox has to be able to moderate its comments in a professional way, especially if they regularly get that kind of vile “discussion.” Huffington Post manages to do it and I can’t believe Fox Nation has that many more comments than HuffPo would. Anyway, there’s simply no excuse.

All though I don’t take victory as a sure thing this early, I am looking forward to reading the comments on Fox Nation when and if President Obama wins re-election.

Of course we’ll have to read them quickly. I have a feeling we may actually witness the first ever nuclear meltdown of a website that may have to close the comments for several weeks before it’s safe for anyone to enter.

Weasel Watters obviously loves swimming with the racist turds in the Fux Nation cesspool.

Since BOR’s toadie, Jesse Watters, is the person behind poxnation, how about a couple of intrepid gonzo journalists do a camera ambush on him? He needs to be confronted on just why it is that he and the poxnation moderators allow such despicable, hateful comments to get posted to their boards. He needs to answer as to why some of poxnation’s headlines are written in a deliberately misleading, yellow-journalism manner that don’t accurately reflect the facts in the article it’s linked to. Since Watters himseld uses such ambush tactics, surely he would have no problem if someone uses it on him, right? Or would he lash out like his cowardly, umbrella-wielding boss did when someone used the ambush on him? Bwaaah!

Since this is the notice one gets when posting at poxnation — “Comment awaiting approval. Your comment must be approved by a moderator before appearing here” — it’s quite clear that Watters and the mods there have no problem posting the the kind of racist, hate-filled screeds that BOR decries (when it’s found on left-wing sites, that is).

Watters and BOR = effin’ hypocrites.

I’m just an audio guy.. I make no claims to anything else.

I took the 911 call with the most audio informatiion regarding screams, pulled down some of the louder noises (the actual shot and a few times the woman caller gets a bit loud) so they don’t hurt you while listening to the softer noises… Then ran it at a slower speed and pitch corrected it 100 percent true. Anyone with an ear for music can tell not a note has been changed.. Digital affords you this luxury. In the analog days we had to physically slow the tape/medium down and you lose pitch and clarity.

THIS AUDIO IS NOT ENHANCED per sey.. not like enhancing a photo.. the only enhancing has been to adust volume levels so you don’t hurt your ear listening to everything at relative volume levels.

There are a few swirling artifacts in this copy because I had to compres the wav file to a 128 kbps mp3 to fit on my page so you had a player to hear it on.. These artifacts are slight and will not distract.

This exercise is just a way to access the call and hear things you would not of as easily (but every bit of audio information from the original is still there) just listening to the raw recording. Akin to slowing down video without the frame per second limitations.
