Finally, a real voice on behalf of working class people on Fox News! And on Labor Day! Mark Brenner, of Labor Notes, was not one of those mealy-mouthed Democrats who seem more interested in showing how willing they are to suck up to Fox News hosts than they are in advocating their side. In fact, Brenner pretty much talked rings around host Stuart Varney on Your World yesterday.
The subject was the targeting of six Republican governors by the AFL-CIO in the 2014 elections. Varney did his best to disparage the effort by accusing the unions of targeting because the governors are anti-union. Brenner showed his mettle right off the bat when he said, “We’re going after them because they are completely lapdogs for the corporate agenda. And their policies to date read like a manifesto in defense of Wall Street and the one percent, so yeah! Yeah, we’re going after them!”
Later, Varney tried to argue that the governors had lowered unemployment rates and that Brenner was “going after successful states.”
Brenner answered:
Working class people, people with not as many zeroes on their checks as you have, have been in recession since 2008. Why are we blaming the people like lunch ladies and librarians? They didn’t get us into this mess! This is a classic example of the politics of pitting the have-nots against the have-a-littles so the people who have it all can scurry right out of the limelight!
And memo to the bland Democrats who seem to think that pandering to conservatives is the way to win friends and influence Fox Newsies, Varney made a point of saying he had had fun debating Brenner.
Mark Brenner, our latest Top Dog!
For the first — and last — time . . . because, you can be certain he’ll NEVER be invited back.

Hm — I’ll bet Stu wasn’t as disparaging of SarahPac’s “targeting” of 20 House Democrats during the 2010 midterms . . . which in the case of one (Gabrielle Giffords), turned out to be literal:
