This weekend’s Forbes on Fox discussion about the Affordable Care Act (aka “Obamacare”) first called the law “the Obama administration’s Vietnam” and then later likened it to the Titanic. The segment was clearly an attempt to move beyond the government shutdown and get back on track by attacking the ACA.
Panelist John Tamny compared health insurance for the uninsured to the Vietnam War. He said, “Make no mistake, this is going to be the Obama administration’s Vietnam for just being adolescent approach to health care.”
Panelist Rick Ungar retorted, “I expect that we’ll be seeing a headline graphic showing that in Oregon 10%, the amount of people who are uninsured in Oregon, was reduced by 10% last week. Pretty big number. California, 600,000 people now getting health coverage that didn’t have it before.” It was a nice smackdown but we almost certainly will not see that headline graphic on Fox.
Steve Forbes said, “Yeah, Obamacare short term won politically, but that’s like saying the Titanic won politically. It is still going to sink at the end of the day. This thing is beyond repair.”
David Asman agreed and seemed to approve of the “Titanic” meme. Asman said, “It is a disaster, it’s terrible stuff, and it’s dealing with people’s health care.”
“This thing is going to be a cost disaster,” Forbest added.
I think we just found two more entries to our weekly Outrageous Quote poll.
