Conservatives’ efforts to cloak their animosity and heartlessness toward the immigrant children arriving at our borders were demolished by Stephen Colbert Thursday night. Most of the laughs were at the expense of Fox News talking heads, especially Laura Ingraham. So funny and so well deserved!
Colbert played a long clip of Ingraham holding forth on her love for Latin Americans. He added, “With our hearts full of love for the Latin American people, it’s clear what we must do.”
“Start deporting people not by the hundreds, not by the dozens, by the thousands,” Ingraham advised.
“It’s a tough love or a very soft hate,” Colbert quipped.
He moved on to show Fox’s Eric Shawn and Steve Doocy complaining about the kids being housed in a “resort hotel” in Texas at taxpayer expense. But some quotes about the hotel from Trip Advisor gave quite a different picture. “Bottom line: we love these kids and the worst hotel in the world is still too good for them,” Colbert noted.
Then it was on to the fear mongering that the children may be bringing diseases.
“My heart goes out to these children. They’re not all vicious killers. Some of them are merely filthy disease carriers,” Colbert said.
Nobody skewers conservative hypocrisy better than Colbert.
