Stephen Colbert’s BFF Is Fox News Host Martha MacCallum

Who could have guessed that Fox News host – and reliable GOP mouthpiece - Martha MacCallum turns out to be totes besties with Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Colbert?

On The O’Reilly Factor this week, MacCallum revealed that she was in the front row of Colbert’s debut as The Late Show host, sitting with his family.

“His wife and I have been friends for more than 20 years and I was there when Stephen and Evie met,” MacCallum explained. “Our families are very close friends. Our kids were born at the same time.”

O’Reilly asked with incredulity, “So you, like, socialize with him? You have barbecues with him?”

“Definitely,” MacCallum replied.

Comedy Central's Colbert Report was mostly a spoof of The O’Reilly Factor, which O’Reilly did not now mention. He did mention that Colbert once stole a microwave from The O’Reilly Factor’s green room

“Where’s your sense of fun?” MacCallum asked, proving that she is a Colbert friend, indeed. She claimed the microwave is still in Colbert’s kitchen and offered to break in and steal it back. However, the oven has reportedly been auctioned and sold for charity.

It’s astounding that any Fox News personality would be pals with Colbert. But after O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, MacCallum may be the one we’d least expect. We have frequently caught her promoting Republican talking points while acting as an objective anchor, though she has taken some stands against extremism.

So does MacCallum's bond with Colbert make her better or worse in your eyes? How about Colbert?

Watch MacCallum discuss her friendship with him on the September 9 The O’Reilly Factor, below.

Aria,
I think you are mistaken about O’Reilly and Stewart. I’m pretty sure they have a sort of grudging fondness and respect for each other.

Jane S, I could see any of those people being friendly with Colbert over MacCallum. It’s not that they’re any more or less conservative but that MacCallum is just a GOP mouthpiece, like a Stepford anchor. Plus she is bland to the point of vapid. I didn’t think she’d have it in her to like a guy like Colbert who is so opposite. Obviously, there’s another side to her I’ve been missing.

Of course O’Reilly wouldn’t get this- This is the same Bill O’Reilly that was lobbying every insult in the book at Jon Stewart, while Stewart was insisting that they’re friends. For the record, you still can’t convince me that O’Reilly was even trying, beyond being civil to Stewart’s face. Which, granted, is more than most get but still…

MacCallum is one of the few major Fox Names that I know nothing about, outside of her on the air. Never cared to look. She may very well be one of those media personalities that leave it at the door.

This further revealed just how petty BOR truly is. So people who hold different political/social beliefs can’t be friends with BOR? Or is BOR just pissed that one of his colleagues is friends with someone who dares to mock his bias, bluster and ridiculousness?

It’s very telling that the insecure and thin-skinned BOR didn’t reveal to or remind his viewers that the premise of Colbert’s show/his comedic persona were very much based on BOR himself. LOL! Looks like BOR is too much of a coward to tell the folks the truth of the matter.

Bildo’s core audience of geriatrics are in bed long before Colbert’s show comes on.

The Colbert Report was of course a Spoof of the O’Really Fact?or. Just as Junior O’Reilly’s “traditionalist” Shtick is a Spoof of the late O’Reilly Sr. With all parties laughing all the way to the Bank.

O’Reilly shows himself to be a barbarian. O’Reilly says a lot of excellent stuff (Kate’s law, Megan’s law) but wisdom escapes his brain. He dis’s Martha for being friends with someone he irrationally hates. BAD FORM O’REILLY!!!

Move Megyn Kelly to the prime time. Demote O’Reilly to less than prime time.

Rug, it’s not the political opinions — though many of them are odious — it’s the eagerness to distort and misreport and flat-out lie that’s the issue.

Huh? “The one we’d least expect”? Hello? Shannon Bream? Megyn Kelly? Andrea Tantaros? Jedediah Bila? Gretchen Carlson? Elisabeth Hasselbeck?

Colbert? The height of pretension?

Bill still doesn’t realize it’s him being mocked?

Who cares? They’re real people. Some of my best friends and I have very different opinions on political issues. And think about family. If I couldn’t be friendly with most of my family due to politics I wouldn’t have a family.
