9/11 happened under a Republican president and more than seven years before Barack Obama moved into the White House. But resourceful Megyn Kelly and her producers found a way to commemorate the 15th anniversary of 9/11 the Fox News way: by blaming President Obama.
No, they didn’t blame President Obama for 9/11, itself, though I have no doubt Fox would have if the network thought it was possible to get away with it. So Kelly, et al. did the next best thing: attack President Obama for threatening to veto a piece of legislation allowing 9/11 victims to sue the Saudi government. Kelly probably got bonus points for trotting out 9/11 victims to assist the effort.
Kelly, who likes to fashion herself as a “straight news anchor” (but was dressed in something a bit less professional), hosted three guests for the subject. But the only one to explain why the Obama administration doesn’t like the legislation was New York Rep. Peter King, the Republican sponsor of the legislation. That's Fox News "fair and balanced" for you.
Agree with Obama or not. He has some serious and legitimate concerns about the legislation. Bloomberg has the information Kelly mostly withheld:
The legislation is sure to antagonize a key U.S. ally in the Middle East which already has tense relations with the administration.
[…]
Saudi officials have said enactment of the law could lead them to sell off the kingdom’s U.S. Treasury debt and other American assets, which totaled $750 billion, the officials told U.S. lawmakers and others in the government, according to the New York Times. The Saudi government held $117 billion in U.S. Treasury debt in March, according to Treasury figures obtained by Bloomberg. The kingdom may have additional holdings not included in the data on deposit with the New York Federal Reserve Bank, in entities in third countries, or through positions in derivatives.
[…]
The administration has argued the legislation would set an international precedent weakening sovereign immunity that would be dangerous if other countries then seek to prosecute the U.S. or American soldiers in their courts.
Kelly signaled just what kind of discussion was to come when she said, in her introduction, “The White House may stand in the way of families seeking justice.”
In addition to King, a 9/11 widow and her daughter were on hand.
“Every single one of our representatives is in favor of this and the president’s going to stop it? Why?” was Kelly’s first question, to King. Her voice was scornful, in case you didn’t get the full message from her words.
King claimed it was due to “pressure from the Saudis, from Saudi lobbyists, the foreign-policy establishment,” which he called “nonsense.” He also jabbed at Hillary Clinton, saying she should tell the president that she supports the legislation, as Donald Trump does.
That was all the information about the bill that Kelly figured her viewers needed to know. She moved on to the 9/11 mother and daughter.
Kelly did question why the mother would want to sue Saudi Arabia given the difficulty and the unlikelihood of actually collecting on any judgment that might be won. The mother told Kelly, “We deserve justice and accountability." The daughter put a Fox cherry on top: “It’s the hardest thing for me to grow up in a world where the threat of President Obama not signing off on this bill.”
Next up? “Dad of firefighter killed on 9/11 reacts to anthem protests.”
Well, I guess nobody at Fox wants to talk about how the Bush administration – the people who were in charge of protecting America on 9/11 – ignored threat warnings, how they alleged a false connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda to sell the Iraq war and that it was President Obama who killed Osama bin Laden.

You are not paying attention.
Kelly is a christian talibanista who backs a party that pushes theocracy.
She has no idea how the world works.
If Fox were to fire her, so much the better when she goes job-shopping.
You see how this works, Meg?
The President doesn’t want US citizens to have the power to sue other countries, because it would open the door to citizens in other countries (or their gov’ts) being able to sue the US (or US citizens.)
This is the same reason the President doesn’t want the US Armed Forces torturing foreign combatants or captured POWs; allowing that to happen would open the door to foreign armed forces torturing US service men and women.
If you and your fellow Fox clowns would just THINK about that for a moment and let go of your hatred for President Obama, you’d understand . . . maybe . . .
