Of course, McCain got the Fox News seal of approval for his outburst against the left-wing activists.
It was predictable that Fox would host McCain for a pat on the head after he drew a lot of attention for calling some Code Pink protesters “low life scum” when they tried to make a citizens arrest of Henry Kissinger during a Senate hearing.
Host Cavuto said admiringly about McCain’s outburst, “That, my friends, is speaking your mind.”
McCain said that whenever Code Pink shows up at hearings, “they stand up and they yell, and they are taken from the hearing room.” But this was different, according to McCain, because, “Never have I seen them physically run up to him and literally threaten him physically, dangling handcuffs over his head. Now this is a 91-year old man who, by the way, is recovering from a broken shoulder, who, by the way, has served his nation in my view, incredibly honorably over many, many years, going all the way back to World War II. And they treat him this way? And unfortunately, there was only one Capitol Hill policeman in the room, and that individual really didn’t do anything. But he was physically threatened.”
Cavuto asked, “Do you have any regrets about how blunt you were, calling them scum and all that? Any regrets at all?”
No, McCain didn’t. “Because they are that.” He said he has “never objected” to Code Pink demonstrating and getting thrown out of Senate proceedings. “But what they almost did to Dr. Kissinger is my – that’s beyond the realm of decent behavior in my view. …They can say anything they want to, and yet, when people physically threaten an individual, that is not what America is supposed to be all about.”
Cavuto said at the end of the interview, “Well, you know, other people might just say ‘impolitic,’ but I tell you, if more were like that, Senator, we would be in a lot better shape. Speak your mind, be clear, be blunt, you could do worse.”
Do you think that if a Democratic Senator called a Republican group “low life scum” he’d get props on Fox News? Something tells me no.
