Jon Stewart Shreds Fox News’ War On The Poor

Jon Stewart exposed Fox News’ self-serving and dishonest attacks on President Obama for calling out Fox News’ demonization of the poor. Coffee spray alert!

As I’ve previously posted, Fox News has ignored the substance of President Obama’s lengthy, thoughtful and substantive conversation about poverty at Georgetown University this week. Instead, Fox has “covered” the speech by cherrypicking parts to attack, especially the part where Obama took a swipe at Fox’s attacks on the poor.

Stewart’s takedown was wide-ranging and deep.

First Stewart showed Fox criticizing Obama for not focusing on poverty.

“Fox finally got the substantive discussion on poverty that they always wanted” including a conservative counter-view on stage, Stewart said about the Georgetown event. But, “Just like college students at a four-hour commencement, Fox basically pays no attention until they hear their own names."

Stewart said Obama made the “easily provable and decidedly true point that Fox News’ narrative is that poverty is not a function of economic condition but of character.”

Fox hosts Martha MacCallum and Stuart Varney came under special comic scrutiny for pretending otherwise. Let’s just say their special brand of “fair and balanced” did not hold up well.

“The president blames us, the honest messengers,” Varney complained in rebuttal. “…We haven’t characterized the recipients, we’ve looked at the program. We’re not saying that the recipients of food stamps are bad people or that they’re lazy.”

Stewart’s face lit up with the glee of his anticipated feast. “That is such a rich buffet of bull*** I can’t – it’s a three-course prix fixe, I’m sorry, prick-fest,” he began.

Then Stewart dug in.

I’m only sorry Stewart missed Hannity’s “take,” that Obama’s plea for faith-based organizations to get more involved in poverty causes means he’s a secret Muslim!

But what we got was great. Watch Varney get his just desserts below, from last night’s The Daily Show.

That is typical language for Stuart “Barmy.” He should be deported for insulting Americans on their own soil.

Let us speak to “Barmy” in his own language.

You tosser, you think you know everything. In reality, you are naff and gormless. Nutters like you don’t belong on American soil. You need to self-deport to your own country. There, you can complain all you want about Americans. You are daft as a bush. ###

All blame falls on the amateur producers. These lazy sods are the decision makers on what is aired on this worthless network. The mouthpieces’ job is to read the teleprompter and to look pretty.

People who watch Fox should be required to also watch the Daily Show to see the Fox message eviscerated.

Lord knows ~ I’m gonna miss him. Not another one like him to give Fox their daily reminders of “fair & balanced”.
