I wasn’t the only one who didn’t buy Megyn Kelly’s “I was just joking” explanation for her on-air assurances that both Santa Claus and Jesus were white. Jon Stewart didn’t either – and he mined it for comedic gold last night.
As I did, Stewart pointed out that Kelly’s answer to her critics was little more than another Fox attempt to play the racial victim – and further Fox’s race narrative. Or as Stewart put it “expressing anger and victimization over the loss of absolute power and reframing it as persecution of real America by minorities, freeloaders and socialists.”
I also said that Kelly had not done herself any favors with her race-victim card. If being magnificently lampooned as the top story on The Daily Show is any guide, I was right about that, too.
They can win the ratings game as long as we we continue to win on election day. I’m happy to make that trade.
Commenting on the retort to Kelly… That clip is a masterpiece. Stewart’s finally back to the form he was in before Oliver’s admittedly strong tenure. Not that he was weak at any point, but it was hit a miss for a while.
Megyn you don’t have to apologize. Just tell the truth that you made a stupid comment that you wish you didn’t say, and you learned a lesson. It happens to all of us, but playing this boo-hoo Fox News and I are being picked on only makes you look arrogant and shallow.
