Hemmer Gushes Over Ryan's Budget: the Single Most Important Event In Government History In Our Lifetimes

Posted by Ellen -7842.60pc on March 22, 2012 · Flag

We recently posted that Neil Cavuto's critical comments about Rep. Paul Ryan's budget were not a good sign about Republican support for the plan. I'd say the same holds true for the emotional support other Fox hosts gave it in repeatedly praising Ryan's courage - while refraining from cheerleading the passage of the actual bill. But none matched the effusive praise from Bill Hemmer, who said about the plan, "I think what happened yesterday is going to go down as the single most important event in government history in our lifetimes, and that is when Paul Ryan came out with his budget plan." But even Hemmer quickly suggested he didn't think the bill would pass.

Hemmer's full statement:

I think what happened yesterday is going to go down as the single most important event in government history in our lifetimes, and that is when Paul Ryan came out with his budget plan. And I'm not suggesting it's going to pass, but what I am saying is a year from now or five years from now or, god forbid, 10 years from now, when we address the problems that he talked about yesterday, there's going to be hell to pay in this country, and we're going to have to make enormous sacrifices. This is how Fox News covers a losing budget plan - when it's proposed by a Republican.

The videos below, via Media Matters, show other Republicans similarly praising Ryan's "courage." Media Matters also notes how many economic experts call Ryan's budget "grossly ireesponsible."

It is not the biggest corporations trying to get a better tax break—they’ve already got a nice deal—it is the richest 400 Americans who stand to benefit from Ryan’s pipe dream budget. It certainly isn’t all 400 of them, but lets say the majority of the richest Americans, and these are the most irresponsible and the most power hungry Americans around.
