Birther Boy Donald Trump got a full hour on a Hannity special last night to offer up his gas bag of punditry. Naturally, Sean Hannity drooled over every attack. But Hannity – who decries the race card when it’s played by black people – seems to think it’s a fine tool to use against President Obama.
Predictably, and as Hannity specials almost always are, the hour seemed a rehash of talking points you can hear any night of the week on the “regular” Hannity show. Trump complained about President Obama’s “class warfare,” saying, “I hate to see what’s happening to this country… class warfare is always a positive thing in terms of getting votes but it’s a very negative thing in terms of the country.”
Unlike, say, promoting a bogus claim that our president is illegitimate and a secret African. I’m sure THAT was a very positive thing for our country.
Well, to Hannity it was. He said, “There seems to be this fear, though, about taking on the president in a tough way. Do you think some of this is due to race? When you were running for president, when you were saying you might put your hat in the ring, that race card was brought up against you.”
In my recent post on Crooks and Liars, I noted that Ann Coulter’s latest book gives “cover for the Donald Trumps of the world who, when they make racially-tinged attacks on Obama, can insist that THEY are the real racial victims merely trying to ask legitimate questions about Obama.” Sure enough, that’s exactly what was attempted here. Short of calling Obama the N-word, it's hard to think of how much more racial Trump's accusations could be. Besides suggesting Obama might be African, not American, and/or a secret Muslim, Trump also suggested Obama is anti-white. All on the Hannity show, without being challenged. And Hannity's only concern? Not that the remarks were racist or would offend but that the accuser would be labeled as a racist.
As if to prove that Trump was the real racial victim, Hannity said, “You spent an entire life helping people of all races in the City of New York.”
Yeah, we all know what a “great relationship with the blacks” Trump has. That’s why he thinks most of them are racists for having voted for Obama. In fact, Trump made that outlandish accusation on Hannity, too. And Hannity ate it up without question.
Meanwhile, Trump seemed to relish playing the racial victim. He said, “People are afraid to take Obama on—and I think they don’t want to be called racist. I don’t know what it is… Anytime you criticize Obama, whether it’s Trump or anybody else you get the racist thing going and thrown at you and it’s very unfair, not nice.”
But before he took a breath, he went on to say “I really enjoyed—I must tell you I loved thinking about running. I was thinking about running, as you know, I was doing incredibly well in the polls... And I would tell it like it is.”
In another part of the interview that I’ll have to dig for, he elaborates that the office earns no respect with Obama in it. I mean, he elaborates the hell out of that talking point.

Whoa — that’s quite a reversal from when Hannity and other rightwingnuts claimed ANY criticism of Dumbya, especially during wartime, was to be considered treasonous.
I wonder what it is about President Obama that makes him different . . .
.
Thank you The Donald! I really like getting close to you, my life is damn empty and you fill it up with hope, hope that any American can understand – sleazy attacks on the POTUS that might one day stick.
Hannity, on the other hand, seems to be taking every moment he can to just spew nasty invective at Obama. If I didn’t know better, I’d say he was being a sore loser in advance. Election night, and the night after should be very interesting on his show. Will he actually show up to do it, or will he call in sick and have Monica Crowley take the heat?
That was the point where he became a cartoon character. Oh, and I love his newest bit where he tried using Obama’s autobiography, and even half the right looked at him like they wanted to ask if he ever read it.
