You can barely watch a Fox News discussion about President Obama without hearing the right-wing hatriots attack him for “apologizing for America” and “not believing in American exceptionalism.” Yet when it comes to Israel, the pundits openly side with that country over their own. Case in point, Sean Hannity’s discussion with Newt Gingrich last night.
The discussion was another round of “Let’s Pretend Newt Gingrich Might Become President.” It began with another round of “Let’s pretend we’re regular schmo’s trying to catch a break” as multimillionaire Hannity and six-figure Tiffany-account Gingrich whined about the “elite” media.
At about 4:35, Hannity brought up Israel and Obama’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday. Hannity opened by tossing Gingrich a thinly-veiled hint to attack Obama. “The president’s saying publicly both at AIPAC and I assume to the prime minister that he has his back. Do you believe that?”
“I have no idea,” Gingrich said. “…Frankly, (the Obama administration’s) efforts at diplomacy with Iran have been pathetic… You can understand why the Israelis are very worried. And no Israeli prime minister is going to turn over the question of survival of their country to any non-Israeli.”
That wasn’t quite what Hannity had been hoping for, I’m sure. So he tried again. “I’m told that the administration has been pressuring, that they want 24 hours notice, that the Israelis said no, that if they were to go after Iran. And we see how the president’s treated the prime minister. His comments when he was with, you know, President Sarkozy, asking Israel to return to ’67 borders, being left in the White House. You know, (Obama telling Netanyahu) ‘Let me know if you come up with something new.’ So I don’t think we’ve seen tension this, tension like this in our lifetime.”
Gingrich said, “If I were the Israelis, I wouldn’t give this administration one minute’s notice because somebody will leak it.
A graphic on the screen blared “U.S./ISRAEL SPLIT” during the discussion.
It couldn’t be clearer which side of that split these guys are on.
NOTE TO THE NEWT
Since you support Israel, we are sure they have a job opening for you this summer.
Really, Newt?
Then, why has Iran, per Russia, agreed to return to talks?
Rightwingnuts: still not keeping up with current events . . .
.
“Mr. Gingrich, you seem very angry and upset. Would you like to take a moment to compose yourself or do you think you can proceed with this interview?”
Nor does Kkklannity. Neither of them are privy to what is going on at the highest levels.
