The discredited Betsy McCaughey was back on Fox News yesterday to help the “fair and balanced” networks’ viewers decide which Republican plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare was better: Marco Rubio’s or Scott Walker’s?
We’ve reported several times about McCaughey’s distortions and falsehoods about healthcare. Media Matters has more.
But Fox host Charles Payne introduced McCaughey by saying, "No one does it better than you."
McCaughey enthused that all the Republican plans “free you from that one-size-fits-all-Uncle-Sam-designed plan.” This is another McCaughey falsehood. ObamaCare requires a minimum level of coverage, not “one size fits all” plans.
McCaughey also loved how the Republican proposals “protect people with pre-existing conditions through state high risk pools." She didn’t mention that high-risk pools are often prohibitively expensive and offer second-rate coverage.
Not surprisingly, Payne didn’t challenge anything she said.
There were more McCaughey falsehoods: that ObamaCare “eviscerated Medicare” and that end-of-life counseling is a “death panel” to kill off senior citizens.
MCCAUGHEY: The Democrats have already eviscerated Medicare. They took the money out of Medicare, robbing grandmother, spread the wealth. They've imposed a bundling measure that will make it so hard to get hip and knee replacements. They're pushing this end of life counseling so that seniors will end their lives early. They're even awarding bonus points to the hospitals that spend the least per senior.
What Payne really wanted to know is whether it’s possible for the next president to actually repeal and replace ObamaCare with either proposal.
Yes, indeedy, thought McCaughey. "We can get rid of this and be free again."
Payne closed by giving his stamp of approval to everything she said. "Nobody knows this stuff better than you,” he gushed.
