Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) will probably lose re-election in the runoff next month but that’s not keeping Fox News from helping their Republican BFFs pull out the stops to defeat her.
“The Democrats on the national level are basically throwing in the towel on Mary. That’s how people are reading it here,” said Ron Nabonne, a New Orleans-based attorney and political consultant for over 30 years.
Landrieu finds herself in a political netherworld: she hasn’t lost, but many Democrats are going through the motions until the Dec. 6 runoff with Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy. The Democrats’ campaign arm has pulled funding, while the national GOP is still hard-charging.
You got that? Even though the Democrats have “basically” given up, the Republicans are “still hard-charging.” By coincidence, Fox News is charging right alongside the GOP.
On Tuesday night prime time, Cassidy got a friendly interview with Megyn Kelly. In between softball questions, Cassidy seemed to be vying for how many times he could accuse Landrieu of being in sync with President Obama. You can watch it below.
Yesterday, Fox’s Martha MacCallum did her part for the effort by re-playing clips from Cassidy’s interview with Kelly.
Last night, Cassidy was back on Fox, this time with Greta Van Susteren. Van Susteren didn’t just sit back and allow Cassidy to plug his candidacy and knock Obama’s “prejudice” against fossil fuels, she actively helped it along by “asking” if the Keystone pipeline bill that Landrieu is now pushing is the same one Rep. Cassidy put forth in the House.
Today, Gretchen Carlson interviewed Republican Senator Dan Coats about the pipeline bill and deliberately steered him away from discussing the bill and on to the subject of Landrieu.
Check out Megyn Kelly’s disingenuous attempt at balance below as she played part of a Landrieu attack ad but really used it as an opening for Cassidy to hit back.
Meanwhile “straight news anchor” Kelly never mentioned Cassidy’s four-Pinocchio ad against Landrieu. FactCheck, org also called that ad false and noted, “Cassidy bucked his party’s position in Congress slightly less often than Landrieu bucked hers — something, perhaps, to consider when Cassidy concludes, “Mary Landrieu represents Barack Obama, I represent you.”
Something for FactCheck readers to consider, maybe, but not Fox viewers watching The Kelly File. Host Kelly never said a word about it.
