On FoxNews.com, there’s a video clip from On The Record called “Jon Stewart apologizes to Calif. D.A.” It’s true, Stewart did apologize for a mistake about the death of an unarmed African American after an encounter with the police. But Fox left out the part where Stewart cursed out Fox’s Brian Kilmeade for using that minor mistake to dishonestly characterize the rest of what was said.
I can’t tell from the online video if On The Record host Greta Van Susteren mentioned that important detail. But in the clip posted online, she made it look like Stewart’s apology was only about his mistake.
VAN SUSTEREN: San Bernardino County district attorney Mike Ramos standing up for law enforcement and taking TV’s Jon Stewart to task. The DA accusing Stewart of getting the facts wrong while talking about police incidents.
While she spoke, the lower-third banner read, “JON STEWART APOLOGIZES FOR WRONGLY COMPARING INCIDENTS.”
Van Susteren kinda sorta acknowledged that there was more to what she was about to play when she said, “Here is part of Stewart’s apology.”
So did FoxNews.com, which described its video by saying, “’On the Record’ Follow-up: San Bernardino D.A. Mike Ramos called ‘The Daily Show’ host out for not having his facts straight on Ferguson and other police incidents, and Jon Stewart apologized, in part.”
But the Fox video ends abruptly just before Stewart would have begun lambasting the “we report, you decide” network.
What’s the matter, Fox News? Can’t take a joke?
