Dumbstruck. For 24 hours I have not been able to even speak about this godawful tragedy. Even the thought that some decent investigations may well end with Trump ousted before too long is scant comfort – the horrible Pence would still be there to slither into place.
My commiserations to those of you close to Ground Zero, but I have no doubt the damage will be worldwide, particularly as it relates to trade and the continued rise of fascist/racist groups infecting our cultures.
The age-old question of how Hitler ever got into a position of power has been answered once and for all. I’m sure Herr Adolf gave infinitely fewer clues to his intentions than your disgusting Trump has. Jesus Christ :(

I’m in total shock, dumbstruck that the country that apparently elected a person who could not have been less democratic. I’d like to believe that all that authoritarian, isolationist, ignorant and outright fascist stuff he said was only to get elected. The USA is about to become the biggest banana republic on the planet.

I wrote this last night as it looked like Trump was going to win but couldn’t bring myself to post it as I wasn’t ready to accept the probable results. But I’m posting it now that the light of day is forcing the reality of what happened upon me.
—————————————————
I wish I could say that the result of this Presidential election is unbelievable but it’s not. When his GOP rivals couldn’t stop him in their primary, it became clear to me that Trump’s chosen tactic (as loud and obnoxious as it was) just might work. He aggressively jumped on the aggrieved populist route and has punked his way into the Presidency.
He conned blue-collar workers into believing that he will bring back all these good paying jobs/benefits that the money-driven corporatists sent out of the country (while his gullible supporters give him a pass on the fact that his clothing line is made in China/Mexico and he buys Chinese steel). He fooled the Christian right and many prominent pastors into believing that he is a Godly man (despite his deplorable, sexist treatment of women and his decidedly unChristian “go f*ck themselves” and “punch him in the face” remarks). He hoodwinked the haters and bigots into believing that he can really build a wall that Mexico will pay for, deport 11+million illegal immigrants and unconstitutionally ban Muslims from our country. He duped the folks with his “I am least racist person there is” (while using dog whistle language that spoke to the white supremacists). He has deceived far too many Americans into believing that he is a man of the people (when, in reality, he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, hasn’t a clue about the struggles of the average American and, more than once, passed his debts on to the folks to bear).
IMHO, it was a sad night for the USA and the world (except for Putin) that a self-absorbed, bullying man-child has just been elected President by nearly half of my fellow Americans. First of all, I’m still shaking my head that so many folks were taken in by him. And, secondly, it greatly concerns me the way that, under the guise of being non-PC, Trump has made it acceptable (and even admirable?!) to be fact-free, boorish, selfish, hateful, racist and bigoted. I have seen so much unAmerican ugliness come out of Trump and those who think like him that I can’t help but be fearful for my country and for my fellow Americans who are in precarious situations with regards to their jobs, healthcare, education, retirement, etc. There’s also worry for those in ethnic/religious groups who were angrily and unfairly targeted by Trump and so many of his supporters. Even though the left has largely gone down in defeat tonight, we have to remain vigilant and push back where we can. I have no plans to leave the country – I refuse to let the likes of Trump and his ilk cause me to check out and give up on my country.
FOX “news” is no doubt very gleeful this morning (even though a Hillary win would have been much better for their ratings as they discovered during their 8+ years of Obama bashing). For a “news” network that prefers to paint themselves as a “fair & balanced” watchdog on the Presidency/government, it will be interesting to see how the talking heads pivot to defend a Trump Presidency (instead of holding his feet to the fire when he can’t keep his campaign promises and/or abuses his powers). No doubt they will give themselves a whiplash as they have to slam on the brakes and do a 180 to start supporting/making excuses for the Trump Presidency.
Obama has a 54% approval rating yet Hillary’s defeat is being painted by many of the talking heads (largely on FOX “news”) as a repudiation of his policies? While I’m bummed for Hillary and worried about the real life effects that a Trump presidency will have for the bulk of the country, I really feel for President Obama. I’m so frustrated that more on the left just simply didn’t show up to vote for the Democratic policies and candidates that would make their lives better. This can’t be a good morning for Obama. Sigh.

And I’ll bet the house LOTS OF THEM voted for Gary Johnson and Jill Stein. Ergo, do NOT be surprised if media godfather Herr Goebbels II (i.e. Rupert Murdoch) and his HarperCollins associates approaches AT LEAST one of them (probably Johnson, because he did the most damage to Hillary Clinton in FL, PA, MI and WI) with “a publishing offer they can’t refuse”, just like they did when Ralph Nader wrote his book “The Good Fight” after the 2000 election.

This was an extremely sad moment for our country. I am both saddened and physically sickened to see that we as a country have chosen to do something like this. There will be some extremely terrible consequences for this choice, and as a country, we apparently deserve them. I can only hope that what Dems remain in Congress will show some backbone as Trump attempts to enact his various promises.
The saddest part of this for me is to know that the haters won the day. The haters on the right wing who will spend the next four years on Fox News and right wing radio gloating about how they were able to get away with obstructing President Obama and ultimately erasing his presidency. The haters on the left wing who will spend the rest of our lives smugly declaring that they wanted Bernie Sanders or nobody.
I am uncertain how to think about celebrating a Thanksgiving in a country that apparently values hatred, racism and misogyny, and proudly states it. Because there were millions of voters who could have shown up to stop this, and they chose not to do so. So this is who we are as a nation. We will have to live with that. I had believed that as a nation we were smarter than this. I was wrong on that count – we will once again need to learn this bitter lesson.
In terms of Fox News and its message of right wing triumphalism, this election sadly proves that Roger Ailes has once again succeeded. They managed to fool enough people enough of the time to once again put someone into a high office who could do a serious amount of damage. Not because he was working to bring the country together, but because he was using the Fox News message of anger and viciousness toward the rest of the country.

I don’t think this was supposed to happen. As far as Donald Trump is concerned. Everything is lined up for the GOP. Goodbye Obama Care.
Oh boy!! Back to the days of the insurance company turning down your heart attack claim because your preexisting condition was an ingrown toenail.
Happy days are here again.
