Dick Morris: I Predicted Romney’s Landslide To Help Him Win

Posted by Ellen -7843.60pc on November 12, 2012 · Flag

Dick Morris visited the Hannity show tonight to explain how he got it so wrong with his prediction of a “landslidey” Romney win. After blaming Hurricane Sandy and acknowledging that he got it “dead wrong” about the demographic turnout, Morris made a jaw-dropping admission. That his prediction was designed to help turn around Romney’s failing campaign.

Morris hinted at what was to come when he said early on, “I called it as I saw it from the polling and I did the best I could and I also worked very hard for Romney.” That right there is disturbing. Morris is billed by Fox News as a “political analyst” and is usually introduced on the air, as he is in this segment, as “former Clinton advisor.” And he did not disclose that he was working for Romney when he made his predictions, at least none that I saw.

But later, Morris openly admitted his prediction was an election ploy:

Sean, I hope people aren’t mad at me about it… I spoke about what I believed and I think that there was a period of time when the Romney campaign was falling apart, people were not optimistic, nobody thought there was a chance of victory and I felt that it was my duty at that point to go out and say what I said. And at the time that I said it, I believe I was right.

In other words, don’t hold a grudge because I was only trying to help the home team.

But there’s good news for progressives in Morris’ latest prediction at the end of the segment:

The Republican Party will recover because ultimately, this president’s policies are wrong and they’re going to lead to an economic collapse in the second term which is going to make the Republican Party look great.

Could there be any better indicator that good economic times are ahead for the country, President Obama and Democrats?

Video available at Mediaite which didn’t just miss the import of Morris’ confession, they didn’t even think it worth mentioning.

Wait a minute — Morris admits that he purposely skewed/misled the folks in order to aid the Romney campaign. But wasn’t deliberate skewing and misleading what the FOX “news” talking heads had been accusing the rest of the so-called mainstream media/polls of doing so they could help to re-elect Obama?! I remember seeing numerous FOX “news” segments in which the hosts/the guests rallied behind the bogus “skewed polls conspiracy” and accused the mainstream media/pollsters of purposely giving the folks a distorted view of reality.

However, we know that the rest of the media/polls were the ones that were actually accurate and that the FOX “news” talking heads were dead wrong and had warped the reality. Hmm, I have yet to hear BOR, F&F et al offer up their public apologies for falsely accusing the rest of the media/pollsters of fraudulent behavior. Too bad they don’t have enough credibility to give the the rest of the media/pollsters a much deserved apology. Pffft.

Let’s try to picture this the other way round. What if, in an alternate universe, Dick Morris and the guys had been right? What if the polls had all been wrong and Romney had indeed won in a landslide as they were predicting?

Do you think that Sean Hannity would be offering support and solace to Nate Silver if it had been shown that Silver had somehow completely blown the statistical analysis he did? Or do you think Hannity would have been preening and puffing about how Morris was right and everyone else was wrong “and I knew it all along”?

The blatant hypocrisy on display here is absolutely stunning.

Since Dick didn’t have any credibility to begin with, he didn’t lose any with his latest misadventure.

So boys and girls tune in next week when we’ll hear Dick share his insights with more right wing fairy tales as he’ll huff and he’ll puff and blow the White House down while those of us on the left will live happily ever after.

Well, it’s very gratifying to see that these fuckheads will NOT be participating in the Republican renaissance that is so necessary for the party to survive. Fox is going to have to live with the the fact that their relevance is solely dependent on the STOOPIT.
