It’s still not known what drove the Tsarnaev brothers to cause the death and destruction they allegedly wreaked in Boston, but that isn’t stopping Fox News from all but declaring them jihadists. This morning, as part of the effort to amp up the fear and hate, Fox’s Brian Kilmeade suggested Bombing Suspect #1’s wife must have known something she’s not telling. Why? Because her husband, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, suddenly turned devout and he had been arrested for domestic violence in 2009. Also because she converted to Islam from Christianity.

On Fox & Friends Weekend earlier today, co-host Jon Scott read a statement by the wife’s family saying, “We cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred. In the aftermath of the Patriot’s Day horror, we know that we never knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev.”

But Kilmeade knew better! Even though he noted that Tamerlan only saw his wife and child on weekends.

We know that she evidently converted to Islam. She was Christian… And I just wonder if that, under questioning, she can honestly say that she had no idea that her husband, who spent a year away came back - praying five, six times a day when he wasn’t (before), not drinking or smoking when he was – and all of a sudden he’s changed that dramatically that she had no indication that he was capable of this. We do also know of a domestic violence call in 2009. We assume it was involving her but we don’t know for sure.

Apparently, Kilmeade thinks that a domestic violence arrest plus becoming a devout Muslim is a sure indicator that Islamic terrorism can’t be far off. Or maybe it’s just the devout Muslim part that counts for him.

In any event, the family did not say there were no indications of trouble, just that they never felt he was capable of something like the Patriot’s Day bombing.

It’s not just irresponsible for Kilmeade to announce that he knows better, it’s deliberate hate mongering. And Fox News approved – if not encouraged – that message.
