Breaking News: Debris From Missing Malaysian Jet May Have Been Found - Or Maybe Not

Although it's 1:30 am eastern time, Fox News, CNN and MSNBC are all live with the news that two large items that "may be" debris from the missing Malaysian jet have been spotted by satellite more than 1700 miles off Perth, Australia. Shepard Smith and Anderson Cooper are live on Fox and CNN, respectively. Betty Nguyen is anchoring at MSNBC.

The crazy thing is that this is really only a possibility. FoxNews.com reports:

Military planes from Australia, the U.S. and New Zealand are searching for two objects spotted by satellite in the southern Indian Ocean that could be related to the missing Malaysia Airlines flight, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said Thursday.

...John Young of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority cautioned Thursday against expectations that this may help solve the mystery of the plane that went missing with 239 people on board nearly two weeks ago.

Young told reporters, "We have been in this business of doing search and rescue and using sat images before and they do not always turn out to be related to the search even if they look good, so we will hold our views on that until they are sited close-up."

I heard some of that McInerney interview on Klannity’s radio show while WFAN was in commercial. I thought I was listening to an Alex Jones disciple.

@jane S. Some say that when McInerney was in the Air Force that he flew far too often without his oxygen mask on.

Joe, it’s Thomas McInerney, a former Air Force lt. general, not a full general, long one of the looniest of the Fox stable of loony ex-generals. He cited something called LIGNET quoting a Boeing source for his claim, which turns out to be an intelligence blog. The only post on this I could find there was one… citing McInerney citing Boeing, and then Boeing vehemently denying it.

The guy has screws loose, but so do they all. He’s a favorite of both Hannity and Fox Business’s Lou Dobbs (who has little to say about actual business, and focuses 90 percent of his time on ridiculing Obama when there’s no good news peg to let him rant and rave about immigration).

It would be nice to think these morans would be embarrassed when it turns out no such thing happened — as it looks like it may shortly — but they know no shame.

Let’s hope that if this is where the plane is, they identify it quickly to bring some partial relief to the passengers’ families (closure won’t come until the “why” is also known).

One person who will definitely be disappointed is Hannity, who all day Wed first on radio, then on TV (Ellen ?) entertained some “general” who followed the Slanthead script that terrorists (the pilots, maybe) hijacked the plane and it is now sitting on the ground in Pakistan or possibly even Iran. And of course that means another total Obama failure!

Ellen, super-sober conservative prime ministers of advanced Western countries don’t announce these things in person to their parliaments unless they’re quite sure of what they have. The Aussie government ministers threw out a few caveats as CYA just in case.

Also, ABC News is now reporting that one of the radar-equipped planes has apparently found a very large object on the sea bottom not far away.

Also, all this stuff was found in the exact place that NTSB had calculated out of a VERY large ocean.

It’s of course possible it’s another false alarm, but there are very good reasons why all the networks are taking it very seriously and hauling their anchors and experts out of bed in the middle of the night.

I believe Smith has gone off the air, at least for now and Fox seems to be rerunning its breaking news. Cooper is still on live and so is MSNBC.
