It looks like we can add New Orleans to the list of places that Bill O’Reilly knows more about than its residents. You may recall that residents of the Big Easy took exception to the sneers and jeers by O’Reilly and Geraldo Rivera Friday night. A group of them wrote a letter to the two hosts, partially reprinted in the Times Picayune, calling the segment “a disservice to New Orleans, America and the truth.” And then, with lengthy statistics and citations to a Wall Street Journal article on the subject, the authors explained why Rivera was wrong to characterize the city as the "Big Sleazy." But I think we can assume O'Reilly will not be retracting anything soon.
On his “Tip of the Day” segment, O’Reilly called the letter “stupid stuff” and characterized one of his emailers who agreed with it “a zombie.” O’Reilly’s actual tip for the day? “Knock it off.”
Or, to put it another way, if you don’t want to be ridiculed on The Factor, be careful about rubbing Papa Bear’s fur the wrong way.
