Karl Rove – Yes, Karl Rove - Complains About Obama’s Divisiveness
Karl Rove visited The O’Reilly Factor to offer his take on President Obama’s comments on race. This, after O'Reilly's vicious harangue against African Americans and Obama. First, there was “liberal” Juan Williams who slobbered over O’Reilly’s diatribe. Nevertheless, Williams was “balanced” by conservative Mary Katharine Ham in the same segment. But even that must have been too much “fairness” for the Factor folks because they followed that with Karl Rove.

I posted last night about Bill O’Reilly’s tirade against African Americans which he cloaked under a very thin veneer of concern about the welfare of the black community. While O’Reilly posited his unsubstantiated, off-the-top-of-his-head “solutions” for poverty, crime, drugs and the other plagues of the ghetto, the underlying message of his Talking Points commentary last night was really, “Why I dislike and distrust African American concerns and why you should, too.” But somehow, Fox News’ African American contributor Juan Williams – a sometimes intelligent guest in opposition to race baiting on Fox – missed the deliberate hostility and ugliness spewing from O’Reilly and embraced it as an overdue voice of reason.

In case there’s any doubt whatsoever about Bill O’Reilly’s utter disdain and dislike of the African American community, then take a look at the nearly eight minutes of ranting, condescension and hostility that made up his Talking Points segment tonight. O’Reilly didn’t just join his Fox colleagues in using the upset feelings in the African American community as an opportunity to attack them, he took it a step further by suggesting that President Obama is deliberately enabling African American ills by pandering to them. Because, apparently, O’Reilly believes he has fooled at least some people into thinking that his hate-filled rant was an effort of tough love and a gesture of concern, instead of, say, pandering to his (predominantly) white viewers' worst prejudices.

If there’s one thing Fox News loves more than a Democrat who turns Republican it’s probably an African American Democrat who turns Republican. So sure enough, although Your World would probably have ignored most Louisiana state senators, substitute host Eric Bolling was suddenly fascinated last week by the thoughts of former Democrat, now Republican, Elbert Guillory.

On The Five last week (7/20/13), the co-hosts coincidentally attacked food stamps and their recipients just as Republicans are doing their best to drastically cut the program. Host Eric Bolling justified his view by arguing that giving poor people less (so the rich can have more) is for their own good – and by painting them as undeserving and greedy.

Yesterday, it was Melissa Harris-Perry. Today, it's Joe Scarborough nailing Sean Hannity over his blatant race baiting. On today's Morning Joe, Scarborough discussed the right-wing push to scapegoat the African American community over Trayvon Martin's death. Scarborough singled out Sean Hannity as a poster child for that kind of race baiting - and there's probably no more deserving candidate.

While I’m sure that no one has been wondering where Dana Perino stands on race, her appearance on ABC’s “This Week” made it loud and clear. In a discussion about President Obama's remarks last week about race and Trayvon Martin, she responded to correspondent Pierre Thomas's explanation of the feelings of African Americans in the aftermath of the George Zimmerman trial by criticizing Obama for not talking about a white thirteen month-old who was killed by black muggers.

In case you missed it, Sean Hannity commented on his radio show airwaves about President Obama's remarks on Friday with the following: "Is that the president admitting" that he could have been Trayvon Martin because "he smoked pot and did a little blow?" Thankfully, MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry took on Fox News' #1 race-baiter, though she called him a "professional troll," and skewered him.

Apparently, the white hosts on Fox News just can’t stop lecturing black folks about what should concern them. And surprise! It’s not the subject that African Americans are talking about these days, i.e. Trayvon Martin. No, Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace joined his colleagues today in whitesplaining to Congresswoman Donna Edwards and Dr. Benjamin Carson that they and other African Americans should put aside the shock, horror and grief that an unarmed teenager was shot and killed while walking home from a convenience store – with nobody being held accountable – and focus, instead, on why so many blacks are violent killers.

There were a number of reasons for the Protestant Reformation; but chief among them was resentment over the promise of time off from Purgatory in exchange for money used to enrich the coffers of the Catholic Church. These get out of Purgatory free cards were immediately jettisoned, along with the doctrine of Purgatory, by the Reformation. But they are still an element of Catholicism; albeit without the cash. While indulgences can be received by prayers and other Catholic stuff (Crusaders earned them by killing Muslims and Jews), today's modern Catholic, according to press accounts, can get some time out from the celestial green room by following the Pope on Twitter. This morning, in a subtle iteration of a favorite Fox meme about how the media aren't nice to Catholics, Fr. Morris explained it all to us. Actually he didn't. What the hell?????
