On Saturday's Bulls and Bears (1/26/2013), the topic was the approval of the Keystone Pipeline in Nebraska. Host Brenda Buttner could not have sounded more enthusiastic about that development as she opened the discussion. Her tone turned disapproving as she noted that there's “still no decision” from the White House. She added, “Gary B. (Smith), you say it's a no brainer for our economy, huh?”

Sarah Palin may have turned down an offer by Fox to renew her contract there but in an interview one day later, she dropped her interest in getting a media gig.

Oh dear, gentle reader, I fear a storm is brewing. In an interview with the New Republic, released this morning, President Obama criticized some elements of the media - naming Fox News by name - for helping to feed the Republican obstructionism and hostility that marked his first term in office. And I can already hear the first ominous rumblings of thunder in the distance. 

Pass the cigars and balloons because I do declare that the "fair & balanced" Fox News has given birth to yet another right wing theme based on right wing outrage over a military aid package to Egypt that includes some F-16 fighters. The opposition to the aircraft is based on concerns that because Egypt's president has made some nasty comments about Jews, he will use these planes against Israel. Rep. Senator McCain allayed these fears during an interview with Sean Hannity; but his was a lone voice on Fox whose coverage has a different POV as seen on Fox Nation and the Fox News website which had an article by the biased and homophobic Maxim Lott who categorizes the planes as a "gift" to "the Muslim Brotherhood." Even Fox & Friends is in on the festivities with an appearance by an outraged Louie Gohmert and an outraged Muslim Zhudi Jasser - its resident anti-Islamic Muslim. Fox News - Fair & Balanced as always!

75% of Fox respondents think lifting the ban on women  serving in the military is "inappropriate."  It is no wonder that the right has a problem with women.  This comes after, in the past year, some on the right saying things like: women in the military would cause men to become too chivalrous and women deserve to get raped in the military. 

The New York Post (a sister company to Fox News) posted a blatantly sexist and hostile cover referring to Hillary Clinton's Congressional testimony earlier in the week with an angry photo of her next to the headline, "NO WONDER BILL'S AFRAID: Hillary explodes with rage at Benghazi hearing." Besides the offensive sexism, it's also quite an overstatement of her conduct. Even Fox News merely called her testimony "at times heated," as opposed to some kind of outburst, as the Post implied.

Fox News' crackpot psychiatrist has some new psychological insights to lay on us over President Obama and his proposed gun regulations. Once again, Ablow didn't let a little thing like not having examined Obama hold him back from a diagnosis: Obama's abandonment issues have led him to disempower the individual in order to empower the collective – with himself at the center of it.

I don't know what Dennis Kucinich was thinking when he appeared on Hannity a few nights ago but I do know he delighted Sean Hannity by validating right-wing fears about the over-reaching of the Obama administration and by letting Hannity's anti-Democratic comments beforehand go unchallenged.

Don't say we didn't warn you. But now it's official: Sarah Palin will no longer be working for Fox News. According to RealClearPolitics, Palin turned down the contract Fox offered her. I'd love to know what kind of offer it was, given that they've not exactly been on the best of terms lately.

A few days ago, I pointed out how Senator Rand Paul's political theatrics at the Benghazi hearing earlier this week launched him into a top spot on the Hannity show. It appears that Paul's stunt stuck. Last night, he was elevated again; this time On The Record hosted him to opine on the fighter planes the U.S. just sent to Egypt - as part of a 2010 deal, struck while Hosni Mubarek was still president.
