Neil Cavuto: Money Means Nothing Compared To Lost Lives In Newtown, Connecticut
On Monday (12/17/12), Neil Cavuto closed Your World by summing up the meaning of money (or lack thereof) when compared to the school shootings in Connecticut. As he spoke, photographs of the slain children appeared on the screen.

The day of the terrible tragedy in Connecticut, Mike Huckabee said, on Neil Cavuto's afternoon show, that there is violence in school because "we've systemically removed God from our schools." On his own Saturday night show, he doubled down on his religious reasons for the shooting with commentary about how God has been removed from public life - a screed that included the Fox abetted lie about taxpayer funded abortion pills. His points were validated by Geraldo Rivera. But during Monday's conversation with Bernie Goldberg, about politicization of the event by both left and right wing media, Bill O'Reilly feigned ignorance about Huckabee's original statement having been made on Fox News. And while Bill bloviated about liberal media transgressions, he didn't seem to want to do the same about Huckabee.

You can hardly turn on Fox News lately without hearing the story of an ex-marine jailed in Mexico for bringing a gun into the country and whose parents are working to get him out. But Bill O’Reilly probably takes the cake for most arrogant and pompous coverage. Instead of “merely” advocating on the young prisoner’s behalf, O’Reilly apparently thinks he is captain of some kind of rescue mission and is issuing orders for Mexico. Oh yeah, and exploiting the jailed prisoner’s predicament for political purposes.

The wife of an elementary school principal in Texas has a message for Mike Huckabee in response to his suggestion that the gun massacre in Newtown, Connecticut was due to the removal of God from public school classrooms: "If you visited the schools you quickly denounce for removing your symbols of God, you’d find that His work actually takes places there every day."

Long-time Democratic Senator Daniel Inouye of Hawaii died a few days ago at age 88. Fox News' Chad Pergram wrote up a respectful obituary, as Inouye - who was also a war hero - deserved. To be fair, most of the comments on the obit were salutary. But some readers found his death cause for celebration.

Well, well, well. Fox News is now for gun control after it was against it.

Last week, Neil Cavuto had an epic confrontation with Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) over the fiscal cliff. He kept demanding to know what, specifically, she (and, presumably the Congressional Black Caucus) would cut. Apparently, Johnson couldn’t articulate her position in a short enough sound bite for Cavuto. He repeatedly interrupted her and finally ended the interview so rudely that he later apologized to his viewers. But Johnson may have had the last laugh. As he was cutting her off, she said, “You might be consulting with the Republicans but I am not because we have not had the opportunity.”

I get the feeling it just kills Bill O’Reilly to admit he supports a limited form of gun control. Or maybe he’s just worried it will kill his fans. In any event, we’ve seen it coming on since at least the Aurora, Colorado shooting. And it also explains his recent buddying up to Bob Costas. In any event, while O’Reilly made a point of pretending his Talking Points commentary was about “What do we do about violent evil?” It soon became clear he meant, “What do we do about guns?”

Given that one of the victims of the Connecticut massacre was Jewish and the shooting occurred during Hanukkah, it would seem appropriate for Fox News to have a rabbi provide his or her spiritual perspective on the tragedy. But Fox's *initial religious analysis was very Christian with several homilies from Fr. Jonathan Morris, an interview with a Newtown Catholic monsignor, an interview with a crisis counselor from the Billy Graham ministries, and some controversial commentary from evangelical Mike Huckabee. But yesterday, Fox finally decided to speak with a rabbi - but Rabbi Moffic was not alone. He had to share the Fox pulpit with - you guessed it - Fr. Jonathan Morris who, according to his **Facebook, had a total of four regular slots during the week-end in addition to being part of Bret Baier's Sunday evening special that covered the Memorial Service at which the president spoke.

Today, on America Live, host Megyn Kelly closed one of many reports on the Newtown shootings with, “It’s just important not to spend all day, every minute on this. You know, there’s only so much the human spirit can take.” So to uplift the spirits of her viewers, Kelly trotted out conspiracy-theorist extraordinaire Monica Crowley to attack the Obama administration with baseless speculation over Benghazi.
