600 New Phone Hacking Claims Hit Rupert Murdoch

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on March 18, 2013 · Flag

If you thought News Corporation's phone hacking scandal was over, think again. The Guardian reported yesterday that an informer has turned over evidence to the authorities that will amount to 600 new phone hacking claims. Police now say the investigation will continue into 2015.

The Guardian writes:

Further details are expected to emerge on Monday morning at the high court during a hearing relating to the existing litigation by hacking victims against Murdoch's News International (NI) – hours before MPs are due to vote on joint Labour and Liberal Democrat amendments that would introduce a backstop law to stiffen regulation of the press.

Sources say Scotland Yard detectives believe they can identify as many as 600 new incidents after obtaining the phone records of an insider who is now being lined up as a crown witness. As a result of the new information, the force's Operation Weeting is revisitng the timetable for concluding its investigation, which had been due to be completed with the conclusion of trials this year. Police now expect their work to continue into 2015.

@ truman I sure hope you’re right about Obama’s AG Eric Holder growing a spine and opening a criminal probe of Murdoch’s media empire — but alas, let’s face two basic facts: Herr Goebbels II (i.e. Murdoch) has MORE THAN ENOUGH $$$$ to afford lots of high-priced lawyers — and don’t forget, unlike the late Tricky Dick (i.e. Richard Nixon), he also has a SYMPATHETIC SUPREME COURT in his corner.

Make that 800:

More than 800 potential new phone-hacking victims have been identified, the High Court will hear today, after a tabloid “supergrass” helped police secure fresh evidence. Officers believe they have discovered evidence of a widespread but previously unknown conspiracy centred on the News of the World features desk, indicating that phone-hacking was deeply ingrained throughout Rupert Murdoch’s tabloid empire. The development threatens to reignite the debate surrounding press misconduct on the day that MPs vote on rival plans to implement the regulatory proposals of Lord Justice Leveson.

Truman: Aren’t there already precedents for this kinda thing in the US? People have claimed to have been hacked while in the US…

I remember there even being a conspiracy theory that part of Fox News’ non-stop offense towards Holder is a safety net attempt to make it where any DOJ-led action against them is the final validation of their narrative against him. They move in, “it begins.”

As stupid as that sounds at face value, it actually does kinda make sense. They smear Holder as the modern equivalent of Heinrich Himmler, and the first time he acts against them, their propaganda machine will have the sheeple and the casual news followers wondering.

And before anyone says BS: ACORN and Shirley Sherrod were both busted in 10 seconds by people who fact-checked the stories, and how far did those go?

It’s just a matter of time before the US Department of Justice opens a criminal investigation of Wrinkled Rupert and Nooze Corpse.
