Once again, Tucker Carlson has proven the astuteness of Jon Stewart's characterization of him as a "dick." On this morning's Fox & Friends, the gang on the curvy couch discussed a show that follows families whose style of parenting could be considered "extreme." The talk was amusing and non-judgmental until the point when Carlson dropped his slut shaming and very misogynistic bomb. Put it this way, it makes Dan Quayle's Murphy Brown comments look benign in comparison!
After some chat about the different types of parenting highlighted on the show, Clayton Morris mentioned the woman who was charged with child neglect after letting her 7 year old walk, by himself, to the nearby park. Carlson was incredulous about this situation. He said that "it's so funny, it seems to be getting even as we are becoming more negligent about our children, letting them go off on video games or having kids without being married which is the ultimate in negligence in my opinion, we seem to be at the same time more uptight about kids."
There was rich irony in Anna Kooiman's subsequent comment that, with social media, our society is "becoming more judgmental" about parenting - this after Tucker Carlson said that "having kids without being married" is "the ultimate in negligence." Talk about judgmental.
Upon graduating from college, trust find baby Tucker married his high school head master's daughter, produced four children, and is living happily ever after. Not everybody is able to follow that path. So what business is it of Carlson's as to whether or not a woman is married when she gives birth? Obviously, being in the rarified atmosphere of white privilege has rendered him incapable of realizing that if a woman isn't married, that doesn't necessarily mean that the father is not involved with his family.
Carlson claims to be "pro-life" but how pro-life is it so slut shame unwed mothers whose lack of a marriage license might not necessarily be of her own volition. Does he think that if a pregnant woman has no prospects for marriage, she should terminate the pregnancy because to give birth would be "the ultimate in negligence?"
But here's the thing, conservative Catholic Laura Ingraham isn't married but has two children which she adopted. There is no husband in her household. Is she "the ultimate in negligence?"
Tucker Carlson doesn't know jack about child neglect, as shown by his creating an equivalency between those who do not properly care for their children and those women who aren't married when they give birth. His charge, that this type of "neglect" is the "ultimate," is one that can only be leveled at women. Along with being a "dick," it appears that our Tucker is also quite the misogynist.
If Tucker Carlson thinks that having a child out of wedlock is "the ultimate in negligence," he can keep on pretending!
