Fox News Website Says Shutdown Is 'Slimdown'

Posted by Priscilla -26.60pc on October 01, 2013 · Flag

Propaganda is heavily dependent on words and phrases intended to convey a political message. As a propaganda outlet for the GOP right, Fox News is a master manipulator of language. Hence, the more inflammatory "illegal alien" is used rather than "undocumented immigrant" in Fox's reporting on immigration. The term "abortion inducing drugs" was used by Fox commentators during their biased coverage of the HHS birth control mandate when, in reality, the ACA doesn't cover any drugs that induce abortion. Fox uses phrases to advance a narrative, with racial undertones, that those who support higher corporate taxes and responsibility want to "take" money away from hard working, taxpaying Americans. While the government shutdown will affect many programs and people, the right wing thinks it's no big deal. And that's why, in what has to take the prize for creative use of language, Fox News has coined an alternate term for the government shutdown  - "SLIMDOWN."

@ J Plow EXCUSE ME — Ellen DOES have a legitimate point. You obviously DO NOT know (or have simply forgotten or chosen to ignore) this FACT: Comcast Corporation (51%) and General Electric (49%) — two of the MOST RIGHTWING SYMPATHIZING CORPORATIONS ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH — are the primary owners of NBC Universal. Here is a link that backs this up:

You think NBC or any other political affiliated group doesn’t do the same exact thing? If you think fox is the only one that does this you are a complete moron. Looking at you Ellen

W mace, I just saw that Fox renamed Kurtz’ article and included it in my latest “slimdown” post, now at the top of the page.

Fox’s shamelessness never ceases to amaze!

This is what happens when certain areas of the country elect their representatives purely on how much the candidate hates Barack Obama. The new reps and senators are just to stupid, ignorant and shallow to see beyond their own spiteful gambit.
Unfortunately, once again, it’s the people that will suffer, not those who are most to blame. And those that are most to blame are NOT this new breed of ignorant, hateful politicians….it’s Dick Armey, Karl Rove, Grover Norquist and their ilk that thought throwing all that money behind morons was a shrewd strategy. Didn’t they learn with GWB? That worked out so well for the country, didn’t it?

From Kevin Koster’s comment:

“Trying to call this a “slimdown” is just the latest attempt by Fox News and the right wing media to try to bolster their guys and minimize the real damage they are doing. I don’t know that this is going to fool anyone.”

It sure as hell’s NOT fooling me one damn bit. Unlike Faux Spews Channel viewers, I THINK FOR MYSELF! I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again and again until I’m blue in the face:

IF IT WALKS LIKE A NAZI, TALKS LIKE A NAZI, AND ACTS LIKE A NAZI…….well, we all know the rest.

’Nuff said.

Earlier today, 55% in polls said this is all the Republican’s fault, and the only fault they can find with Obama was that he called their bluff.

When the poll was updated later, it said 63% blame Republicans. Now some of the ones that are still going are up to 70%.

Fox needs to spin this- Not that it will do them any good. They were on board for this when they thought they could blame Obama.

This is just another example of what appears to be a right wing panic over the consequences they are now going to face for throwing a tantrum in public and not knowing how to gracefully back out of it. Their problem is that this tantrum is having real impact, since they’ve put the entire federal government into a situation where everyone is now painfully aware of the House GOP’s unwillingness to do its job.

Trying to call this a “slimdown” is just the latest attempt by Fox News and the right wing media to try to bolster their guys and minimize the real damage they are doing. I don’t know that this is going to fool anyone.

At this point, I think President Obama and the Senate are simply going to continue to make public statements calling on the GOP to do the right thing, and they’ll be happy to wait a couple of weeks for the GOP to come around. Doing so actually makes the whole Debt Ceiling issue easier, because it will mean that the GOP will be unable to shut everything down AGAIN, thus forcing them to act like reasonable people. The real question now is whether John Boehner will be able to do his job and convince his guys to do theirs. He’s already got the record of being perhaps the weakest Speaker we’ve ever had. Another public failure could see him getting tossed out in the midterms, if his own guys don’t throw him overboard first. I do think there’s a chance you’ll see a bunch of these hard right guys getting primaried from the center.

I’d be happy to get a bag of popcorn and enjoy the show if the House GOP hadn’t taken away the money for the popcorn.

When the ignorant teabaggers finally realize that necessary Government services are delayed or not available, they will squeal loudly. The “slimdown” will become a “shutdown” caused by that evil black Muslim living in their White House.

Republicans apparently have no faith in their own actions. They wanted to shut down the government; but they take no responsibility for it; but they claim that a shut down is a good thing anyway; and if it actually does turn out to be a good thing for their base, they will try to take credit for the ‘slimming’ down of government. They are like a dog chasing its tail.
