Eric Bolling: More Single Working Moms Mean More Abortions - Seriously?

Posted by Priscilla -26.60pc on June 05, 2013 · Flag

Eric Bolling doesn't have a uterus and he, reportedly, makes between $10 and $15 million annually. Yet, he seems, like his fellow well paid and uterus-free Fox colleagues, to have a problem with the fact that women are the sole income earners in 40% of American households, many of them headed by single mothers. While the Lou Dobbs sausage fest lamented that this illustrates the demise of American society at the hands of those nasty bitches who don't know their god-given and, according to Eric Erickson, scientific place, Fox's Eric Bolling took the right wing whine even further, He lamented that the breakdown of the American family means more single moms in the workforce and this leads to - wait for it - more abortions! So I guess in Bolling's warped, alternate universe, things were so much better when women stayed home in dysfunctional and abusive marriages because that prevented them from having abortions. Ah, the good old days of barefoot and pregnant. Seriously, he not only plays one on TV but he truly is an idiot!

Last week, on The Five, during a discussion of the data on women breadwinners, Bolling spewed this gem:

"The American family is breaking down. Women are forced to go out, be the breadwinners for families. That's why the number's skewed higher now. Here's another offshoot of that: If you are a single mom, breadwinner of the family, and you get pregnant, aren't we pushing towards more abortions? It seems like we are."

First of all, if women have abortions, for whatever reason, it's none of Eric Bolling's business. Second, for many single, low income working moms, another child would be an economic setback - something that Eric Bolling will never have to worry about. Fox some women, it could mean the return to public assistance and we know that Eric and his friends are not exactly supportive of the social safety net.

Eric doesn't want single, working moms to have abortions; yet, he probably opposes a raise in the minimum wage which would benefit these women. Most likely, he doesn't support subsidized child care which is vital for low income working mothers and not for women in Eric's socio-economic class who, if they work, can afford in-house nannies. For many low income working moms, another child means finding more affordable day care. Their existing providers might not take newborns so that could become a problem. Perhaps if the US's maternity leave policy were not one of the worst in the western, industrialized world, fewer women would abort.  And it's Bolling's right wing posse who don't want insurance companies covering birth control which helps to prevent unwanted pregnancies. And then there's the whole child support thingie, the lack of which can be a serious problem. Bolling didn't mention that.

But seriously, how does Bolling make the jump from more single working mothers to more abortions? Seems like he's assuming that, as a group, they're having a lot of unprotected sex? And who is the "we," whom he claims, are "pushing for abortions?" Is Bolling saying that by allowing women into the workforce, society creates a need for abortion? Hey Eric, Abortion is a safe and legal medical procedure about which women are capable of making their own decisions. If they are "pushed," it's because of circumstances which, they believe, necessitate an abortion. Hey Eric, if you don't like abortion don't have one and stop trying to slut shame those working women who do make that decision.

NARAL sums it up nicely: "It goes to follow that when women can't decide whether and when to start a family, they have a much harder time earning a good salary. Sorry, Fox News, but I don't think you'll find a whole lot of women who are ready to accept a smaller paycheck just to fit into your extremely narrow worldview."

Fox's Eric Bolling: More Women In The Workplace Will Lead To 'More Abortions'

Following the release of a Pew study that states 40% of women are now the sole breadwinner for their family, and Fox contributor Erick Erickson's subsequent controversial comments on the matter, another Fox personality named Eric said something on The Five today that may raise some eyebrows among those who view more women in the workplace as a good thing.

Some women are forced to work because (A) Their ex-husbands are not paying child support. (B) Their ex-boyfriends are not paying child support.

Bolling Mad is a dimwit. Not the brightest headlight on the vehicle.

NOTE TO BOLLING MAD

Your parents spawned a imbecile.

@doors17. It doesn’t seem like it was 45 years ago does it? I still recall when I heard the news that RFK had been shot. I didn’t believe it at first. Not again!

I believe RFK would have been elected President had he lived. He would have ended the Vietnam War quickly and advanced the civil rights cause. No Tricky Dick, no Spiro Agnew, no Watergate. This nation would have been so much better off with President RFK.

As for Bolling, it is clear that he has neither a uterus nor a functioning brain.

Oh how I miss the days when I could just hear another’s point of view or beliefs and simply and politely disagree. Today it seems that there is no such thing as a moderate Republican and has become a complete waste of time to make any attempt to try to have a discussion where compromise can be worked out to the satisfaction of both sides to give and take a little. It seems that the stereotype of far, far right, that we used to make fun of are the only voices representing the party today. And they wonder why they can’t win national elections anymore?

Sorry for going off topic but today marks the 45th anniversary of the assassination of US senator and attorney general Robert F. Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. I just turned 11 years old when this happened, and will always feel like our country and the world lost someone very special that night. I believe that Bobby would have defeated Nixon and Tricky Dick would only be remembered today as a former VP and for losing to both Kennedy’s.
