Bill O'Reilly minces no words in his condemnation of those whom he thinks denigrate Christians and in particular, the Catholic Church. During the run-up to the papal election, he even criticized comedy shows, like the Colbert Report, for mocking the Catholic Church. But while Bill is a strong admirer of his Catholic Church, he has no respect for the LGBT community, whose campaign for marriage equality is viewed, by Bill, as a strategy to destroy "traditional" America. So given that he is contemptuous of the gay community, it came as no surprise that Bill and Dennis Miller would engage in some very heterosexually machismo mocking of the lesbian community during last week's "Miller Time." In keeping with the right wing distortion of a government funded study which, unmentioned by the right wing media, also includes straight males, Bill and Dennis disparaged lesbians with the kind of homophobic "humor" that, if said in the workplace, would result in a sexual harassment lawsuit.
Thursday night, Bill set up his message; i.e. that government wastes money on foolish studies. Miller then did some "comedy" about Bill's infamous recent rant and how he should do his show in 3-D in order to get the full effect of the pointing finger. Apropos of nothing, Miller added that "the Ferrandino guy is straight because the gay community won't let you have that bad a comb over." Bill laughed uproariously and continued to laugh as he reported that "we are spending $3.6 trillion a year and a Boston hospital, Brigham, a hospital up there, million and a half of our money, Miller." At that point, O'Reilly was laughing so hard he couldn't continue. Miller, laughing hysterically, asked what the name of the hospital was and O'Reilly, barely able to control himself, said "Brigham and Children's Hospital in Boston, a million and a half, to find out why some lesbians are chubby. They're eating too many Mars bars, I don't know, come on."
Happy to join in the lesbian bashfest, a laughing Miller opined that "the reasons lesbians are chubby is they feel no need whatsoever to attract men anymore. It's that simple. Let's not get too involved here." He added that "the entire country is turned into Wimpy, by the way" because "everybody is on the mooch." He said that "when we're giving money out to find lesbians are chunky, the next thing I know is they're going to be investing money to find out why they turn into spokespeople at the Caltech seismological institute, I don't know." Bill giggled in the background. Miller continued with the homophobic attack: "They're lesbians. This is what they do. $27 million dollars." A laughing O'Reilly interjected that he thought Miller should "leave them alone" because "if they're happy being chubby, fine. You don't need to study em." Miller asked "wasn't there a song, we had a song like that, if lesbians are happy and you know it clap your hands." He clapped his hands as O'Reilly chuckled.
Not only did Dennis Miller insult gay women with his stereotyping "jokes" about "chubby lesbians," but he lied. The study isn't $27 million it's $1.5 for two years (as correctly noted by O'Reilly). Neither Miller nor "journalist" O'Reilly mentioned that the study includes straight men who, along with lesbians and bi-sexual girls and women, represent a high percentage of those who are overweight. The study aims to find out why straight men are "more often overweight than gay men." But because the segment was intended to denigrate the gay community, that would have interfered with the homophobic propaganda. Neither O'Reilly nor Miller mentioned that one year of the study ($741,378) is just "08 percent of the estimated $829 million the NIH spent on obesity research in 2012" - so not the big money deal that it is being portrayed as.
What's next for the comedic stylings of Dennis Miller and Bill O'Reilly? Using racial and ethnic stereotypes to attack health studies for minority groups? But seriously, I would love for Miller and O'Reilly to say that lesbians are fat because "that's what they do" in front of - say - Ellen DeGeneres, Wanda Sykes, or Jane Lynch, all of whom are quite svelte. Just saying....
If you care about the gay community, please let Bill O'Reilly know:
You can only reach Miller if you pay $49.95 for a yearly or $5.95 for a monthly membership in the Dennis Miller Zone and that's so not worth it. But he is on Twitter so....
And if you care about the gay community and are connected to their social media, please let them know about this.

However in the case of Dennis Miller who obviously needs some help, I might be willing to make an exception.
