While the world awaits the new pope, the reality based media, in reporting on the newsworthy problems faces by today's Catholic Church, cites the systemic and global sexual abuse problem which has eroded the credibility of the Church, especially in the US. They also cite declining Church membership and attendance. The Church's problems relating to women, who ignore birth control teaching, and liberal nuns who are being investigated by the Vatican are also mentioned. Vatican secrecy and Vatican leaks are cited. But not on Fox News, which seems happy to carry the Vatican's holy water. Apart from scant references to Catholic "scandals," Fox coverage of the upcoming papal election is sunny and happy with lot of talk about how Fox fave, Cardinal Dolan, is so papabile! And as part of the coverage, some Fox Catholics (and they are legion) have been chastising the evil, anti-Catholic media for saying bad things about a Church for which Fox "News" provides some sweet PR!
The newest Fox meme is that the media is unfairly bashing the Church by focusing on that silly sexual abuse stuff and ignoring all the wonderful things done by the Church. Bill O'Reilly and Laura Ingraham whined about this. And now, the cross is being taken up by Fox & Friends, a show that is always willing to provide affirmation for persecuted Christians as well as pimp the anti-Obama propaganda for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops over which Cardinal Dolan, who (ssshhh) paid off pedophile priests to leave the priesthood, is the head. This morning devout Catholics Steve Doocy and Peter Johnson Jr. who is a Maltese Knight, pal of Cardinal Dolan, litigator for the Catholic arch-diocese of New York, and Roger Ailes' personal attorney, continued the whine. (So no bias there, nosireee)
After Doocy reported on the conclave to elect the next pope, he said that "that's not stopping the mainstream media from painting the church in a lousy light," adding "this is nothing new." He tossed to devout Catholic Peter Johnson Jr. who said that "it's an exciting time for the Catholic Church." He accused the mainstream media of "marching in lockstep" and "looking to beat away at the chinks in the Catholic Church." He claimed that "instead of talking about communion, confession, and the community of faith, they talk about birth control, and pedophilia." He continued: "Instead of talking about devotion and social justice" - Wait a minute, stop right there - Fox News never talks about the Catholic views on social justice because, among right wing Catholics, that's tantamount to communism - "and providing education and charity to millions of Americans, they talk about dissension (newsworthy reality) "and conflict and" (he started to stutter) "the Church imploding..."
His voice cracked with emotion as he said how the millions of devout Catholics, waiting for the announcement of the new pope, show the "power of faith." Fellow devout Catholic Steve Doocy said that when he was at yesterday's Mass, which was a "full house," "nobody brought up the bad stuff you read about in the mainstream media." (Just like the good old days when everybody knew that priests were abusing kids and nobody talked about it?) He said that he and his Catholic peeps are hoping that the new pope "will lead us past all that stuff that's in our rear view mirror." Johnson pontificated that "it's a give that the mainstream media has a bias" led by the NY Times which has the audacity to talk about "problems in the Catholic Church" while not "focusing on the universality and the things that bring the Catholic Church together." He claimed that the cardinals have discussed all the bad stuff because "that's important for the church."
How dare that mainstream media discuss the realities facing the Catholic Church! The cardinals are talking about it so, nothing to see here, move along. Who cares about issues like the Church's position on birth control being ignored by the vast majority of Catholics (hmm, the Doocy's only produced three new Catholics) and a pedophilia scandal that resulted in a Philadelphia monsignor in jail and a Kansas City bishop on probation? Who cares about the nuns on the bus, missing from Fox News, whose preaching about social justice earned them a Vatican reprimand? Who cares about the sexual abuse baggage of American Cardinals who will elect a pope? Obviously not Fox News where the news about an upcoming papal election is all happy happy, joy, joy and if Roger Ailes keeps up the good work, in 2016 more Catholics will vote Republican cuz in 2012 there weren't enough to get the GOP job done!
Dolan’s so brash that he has ho hope in hell of passing the “pastoralist” test. He does have all the other traits of a cut-throat CEO and I’m pretty sure even the Curia (arch-conservative side) realises that his election would cause the faithful to flee in even larger numbers.
Oh wait.
These clowns at Fox “News” should be ex-communicated, including Nixon-trainee Roger Ailes, Bill Shine, John Finely, Goofy Doocy, Jr. Johnson, disgraced priest Morris, Hannocchio, Billy, and the rest of the so-called cafeteria Catholics.
We need all the masses to call talk radio, and post on social media about the pedophile priests inside the Catholic church. We need to do this 24/7 to counter the Fox “News” frauds.
Stay clear from any cafeteria Catholic who prefers to protect pedophile priests over young children.
NOTE TO JOHNSON
Catholic Church = Pedophile priests. You are an insult and a disgrace to the Catholic church.
Sorry Fox, but Dolan is unpapable.
Actually, in Billdo’s beloved Ireland it’s even worse. Near total collapse of the RC church.
