Recently, in two Fox & Friends segments, Tucker Carlson discussed the U of Missouri's "Diversity Guide," an "educational resource" which assists professors in "planning classroom activities and other academic and co-curricular events" around religious holy days celebrated by students. Carlson lied when he claimed that the "frivolous and silly" guide recommended that no exams be scheduled on Wiccan holy days. He lied when he suggested that Wiccans get an official day off on their holy days which, he falsely claimed, are recognized by the school. He lied when he claimed that they have a "ton of holidays." But worse, he attacked Wiccans as Christian haters and stereotyped them as incense loving, twice divorced, rural, older women who are mid-wives and addicted to Dungeons and Dragons. Today he apologized for offending the Wiccans. The claims that Wiccans get special treatment still stand. So much for "fair & balanced." Oh right, this is an opinion show...
Carlson began by referencing the report, on Fox & Friends about "Wiccan and pagan holidays being recognized by the University of Missouri." He continued: "My comments offended a number of people. That was never my intention and I also violated one of my basic life rules which is live and let live. Wiccans have never bothered me or tried to control my life, I should have left them alone. Sorry about that." Clayton Morris, who also had misrepresented the Diversity Guide, praised him with "well said."
In citing his past report, Carlson used the phrase "Wiccan holidays being recognized by the University of Missouri." That still conveys the impression that these holidays are part of the school calendar and that's incorrect. He said (quite cavalierly if you ask me) that he was sorry about offending people and that's a major landmark for the Fox News channel which specializes in offending people and rarely, if ever, apologizes. But I do find it rather amusing that Tucker Carlson believes in "live and let live" - a belief system that, when it comes to David Brock of Media Matters, Carlson is violating.
Tucker Carlson might have apologized - but he's still a total dick!
That being said…if he was really such a “live and let live” kind of guy, he wouldn’t be so offended by a diversity guide that includes information about Wiccans.
I’ll accept that as his wording for “I do have control over what comes out of my mouth, I just choose to not exercise it.” That way, he still comes off better than someone who made those comments because he thought people would find them funny.
