Megyn Kelly describes the rabidly right wing Michael Reagan as a "devout Catholic." As such, he has become quite the spokesman for the Catholic Church's lawsuits filed against the Obama administration. He joins pedophile priest defender Catholic League president, Bill Donohue as one of Megyn Kelly's go to guys for coverage of the Church's hissy fit - a coverage in which the voices of those who argue against the lawsuits and of those HHS supporting clergy, such as Sr. Carol Keehan of the Catholic Health Association and the Clergy Coalition for Choice are missing. On May 21, the divorced and remarried Reagan talked excitedly about Catholic plans to go all Saul Alinsky over the birth control policy - a tactic which, of course, is considered really nasty when done by "Occupy." He did an encore on Tuesday's "America Live" during which he and fellow divorced and remarried Catholic Megyn Kelly engaged in happy chat about their Church's militancy and changes in the Catholic mass. And as an added attraction, Reagan gave advice on "getting around" Catholic employers rules on birth control. WTF? Isn't birth control a sin....??
Kelly reported, as she did in her original piece, on how the Catholic bishops are preparing Catholics for possible civil disobedience against the Obama administration's HHS mandate. Megyn Kelly chuckled as she reported on the bishop's plans to mobilize 68 million American Catholics. She didn't mention that of this number, not all are on board with the bishops and not all will be attending the Masses (22%) where this will be preached. She noted that Catholics have some major political juice and that this call for disobedience is reminiscent of Catholic clergy who protested the Civil Rights and Vietnam war. (Bet the GOP right wing weren't too thrilled about that!) She then introduced that paragon of Catholic values, Michael Reagan, as a "devout Catholic" - so devout that he once called for the killing of an anti-war activist and Muslim babies!
In case you won't be attending Mass, Kelly described the "Fortnight for Freedom" which Fox's official and only clergy contributor, Fr. Jonathan Morris, also pimped on Fox & Friends. Kelly then lied about how the mandate covers "abortion related" drugs - a lie that has been advanced on other Fox shows. One more time - Emergency contraception prevents ovulation and implantation of a fertilized egg which is considered abortion inducing only by the Catholic Church. It does not cover actual abortion "related" drugs such as RU 486.) "EC" does not result in an abortion if a woman is pregnant.
President Reagan's adopted son said, in response to Kelly's cued question about what this Catholic crusade means, that it's big trouble for Obama. He babbled about how the GOP loves that the birth control discussion is supplanting discussion about immigration which is an important issue for the Church. (Uh, so important that it's not the focus of their activism and not the focus of Fox News which is the bishop's media arm!). He referenced Catholic martyrs and how Obama is like Henry VIII in that he's forcing people to go against their conscience. (Uh, Henry's Englanddidn't have First Amendment issues which don't always comport with what religious groups want)
After saying that if women employees of Catholic institutions don't like their policy they can go elsewhere, he provided some advice that Cardinal Dolan might not appreciate. He told about how his daughter works for a Catholic school and "there are ways around this" like getting a letter from a doctor and then taking it to an insurance company who will "allow you, if you wish, get your birth control." He said "you can do it if you want to do it." (Not only are they sinful, but according to "Rush" they're sluts!!!) Kelly tried to do some damage control by explaining that the Church will allow the birth control for medical reasons because it isn't being used to prevent conception.
Reagan pontificated about how "steadfast" the church is in their beliefs (Right, women can now go hatless and meat can be now eaten on Fridays - cept for Lent) and if you don't like it you can leave. Megyn looked all coy and cute when she that despite their being steadfast, "they did change the words this year which was very confusing for all of us." (Oh, snap, Megyn is fellowshipping with her Catholic viewers). It was all shits and giggles as Reagan and Kelly joked about the new wording of the Catholic liturgy.
The stuff you learn by watching Fox "News." And BTW, wonder if Catholic Megyn ever got right with Holy Mother - or is it Holy Father - in order to get her kids baptized in the church that she so loves and protects on what is officially a "news" show!
That pretty much sums up the outlook for the church of Cardinal Dolan, Father Spanky and Fox.
Organized religion is in serious trouble, and no amount of hypocrisy is going to save it. Somewhere along the line, Catholicism forgot about the people. Now the people will forget about them. And this former altar boy is very glad.
