On Friday night's "Factor," Bill O'Reilly lambasted media coverage of the Trayvon Martin case on those networks that he deems anathema. He discussed the issue with Mike Huckabee and in his "Talking Points." He warned that librul media coverage, which brings up the racial elements of the story (sssh, no possible race issues here, move along), could lead to violence on the part of those who want a conviction of the shooter, George Zimmerman. (O'Reilly thinks that African Americans are incapable of self-control?). O'Reilly's accusations against the librul media bring to mind the saying about pots meeting kettles given that he's accusing them of the type of journalistic irresponsibility and possible malfeasance that he made into an art form in his crusade against abortion provider Dr. George Tiller. It's ironic that O'Reilly warns about how national television coverage could, potentially, result in violence when, in the case of Dr. Tiller, the violence took the form of the murder of Dr. Tiller. But O'Reilly did win a "Courage Award" for his efforts so it's all good.
Let's take a look at some of Bill's "Talking Points" whilst strolling down memory lane.
BOR: "It was pathetic last night watching the prime time cable opinion programs whip up the Trayvon Martin case to dangerous levels."
Over the course of several years, while protests outside the abortion clinic of Dr. George Tiller reached a fevered pitch, Bill O'Reilly referred to Tiller as a "Baby Killer" on at least 24 occasions. He also described Tiller with words like "Nazi, killer, murder, murderer, barbarian," and warned of a "judgment day." O'Reilly even "whipped up" his listeners to stage a mass protest outside Tiller's clinic.
Bor: "Many media outlets are exploiting the terrible death of Trayvon by convicting the man who shot him of wrongdoing on television."
"Other cable networks have a vested interest in seeing Zimmerman punished because they've found him guilty on the air."
"Sharpton, who hosts a show on MSNBC has already found Zimmerman guilty on the air."
O'Reilly said that Tiller was guilty of "Nazi stuff," and equated Tiller with Al Qaeda and NAMBLA. He also "convicted" him with the comment that "We have incontrovertible evidence that this man is executing babies about to be born because the woman is depressed…if you don’t believe me, I don’t care…You are OK with Dr. Tiller executing babies about to be born because the mother says she’s depressed." He also claimed that he had "evidence" that Tiller was "executing babies." According to O'Reilly, "Dr. George Tiller destroys fetuses for just about any reason right up until the birth date for $5,000."
BOR: "Pundits, who have no idea what happened that night are putting innocent people in jeopardy with their commentary."
"The racial animus is already being stirred up on national television. That is flat out dangerous and the media companies should be held accountable if any violence breaks out."
Bill O'Reilly, whose unfounded accusations against Tiller, on "national television," were brought by a discredited anti-abortion Kansas Attorney General whose law license has been suspended due to his conduct during the Tiller case, contributed to a climate of hate in which an abortion doctor was murdered. For O'Reilly to say that the coverage of the Trayvon Martin case is incendiary is ludicrous and a tad hypocritical. And if media companies should be "held accountable for any violence," then Fox News should have been held responsible for the murder of Dr. Tiller. Ya think?
So tell me again how they “didn’t cover it because the killer was a black muslim”? For that matter, where’d you get that they would be their reason, anyways?
MSNBC wasn’t agitating about William Long as was Bill O’Reilly agitating about Dr. Tiller. Next…
“How about MSNBC for the Fort Hood shooting because of Keith Olbermannâs hatred of the troops and defense of radical Islam?”
Seriously?
“Do you understand what the New York Times, and the far left wants? They want to break down the the white Christian male power structure of which you are a part, and so am I…” – Killer O’Reilly
