The term "Cafeteria Catholic" is used, in most cases, to describe those Catholics who don't adhere to the strict and infallible Catholic doctrines on birth control and homosexuality. It's used less often to describe those Catholics who, while "pro-life," ignore Church teaching on war and social justice which, in Catholicism, are not dogmatically defined. So I guess it's really no big deal that Fox's Eric Bolling, a devout Catholic, can preach the right wing beatitude of "f#&k the poor" because he's against Planned Parenthood. But the cognitive dissonance is interesting. According to the Catholic "Catechism" (rule book for RC's), trash talking about folks is a bad thing. Additionally, it says that "one should practice moderation and discipline in the use of the social communications media." "Moderation and discipline" are not Bolling traits; but he goes to daily Mass and lights candles for his friends so it's all good??
As noted on the Fox News Insider, Bolling is a "devout" Catholic (one of many Catholic heavy hitters on Fox "News"). He has said to his "The Five" mates and to a reporter for Glenn Beck's "The Blaze" that he attends daily Mass and lights candles in St. Patrick's Cathedral. He tells troubled folks on his Twitter that he's praying for them and lighting candles. He believes that it's important that he "stands up for Christianity" which he thought he was doing when he evicted an atheist from his Fox Business show. He also says that Bill Maher is "hateful." But wait isn't this crusading Christian the same Eric Bolling who said:
(Regarding Democratic US Rep. Maxine Waters) - "Congresswoman, you saw what happened to Whitney Houston. Step away from the crack pipe. Step away from the Xanax. Step away from the Lorazepam. Because it's going to get you in trouble. How else do you explain those kinds of comments."
(Regarding President Obama) - "Guess who's coming to dinner? A dictator. Mr. Obama shares a laugh with one ofAfrica's kleptocrats. It's not the first time he's had a hoodlum in the hizzouse.
That Obama was "chugging a few 40's" inIreland rather than responding to theJoplin tornado disaster.
That Obama signed a wrong date on something because "he had too many Guinesses"
And who could forget how Bolling, in standing up for Christmas, created a poster that had a gun and the word's "Obama's War on Christmas." As part of the "joke" he questioned Obama's religion.
The words "moderation and discipline" don't exactly fit here. I'm thinking hypocrisy. But he does light candles so as the "Church Lady" would say, "Isn't that special...."
