President Obama will be making an address from Newtown, Connecticut shortly. We'll be streaming it live after the jump. Share your thoughts and observations with us in our Comments section. I'll be watching the Fox News coverage and doing some live blogging.
UPDATE: Video of President Obama's touching speech is after the jump.
7:02 I understand President Obama is a bit delayed because he's taking some time with the victims' families.
7:11 Fox just suggested Joe Lieberman would be a good chairman for a commission on investigating what can be done to prevent school violence.
7:50 President Obama has arrived.
7:58 Memo to Fox News: Look, there ARE Jews in Newtown.
President Obama is speaking now.
8:50 Obama: We can't accept things like this as routine.
8:54 So sad to hear President Obama read out the names of the fallen children. I can hear people weeping.
9:08 And here comes the criticism of the President.
I live about 20 miles from where we had a similar incident that occurred on January 17, 1989, at Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton, California. The gunman, Patrick Purdy, who had a long criminal history, shot and killed five schoolchildren, and wounded 29 other schoolchildren and one teacher, before committing suicide. It seems to be forgotten about today, but that slaughter lead to the 1993 assault weapons ban.
Doors17 read this for us: “One failed attempt at a shoe bomb and we all have to take off our shoes at the airport. 31 school shootings since Columbine and no change in reguation of guns”.
That is great point that should be made over and over and over again.
Thanks for that @doors17
Ironic and oh so true.
“One failed attempt at a shoe bomb and we all have to take off our shoes at the airport. 31 school shootings since Columbine and no change in reguation of guns”.
Nice.
I read the following that I would like to share with you.
