If there are three things Fox News has absolutely no standing to complain about, it’s bias, insanity, and passes on inexcusable behavior. But leave it to Greg Gutfeld and Megyn Kelly to seize on an incident of anti-tar sands activists who visited the home of Enbridge VP Mark Maki, and use it as an excuse to smear all liberals as enablers of over-the-top protests - and that includes the mainstream media, too. As, of course, Gutfeld and Kelly very conveniently ignored the extremist behavior of some conservatives not infrequently welcomed to the Fox News airwaves.
Let’s start with Megyn Kelly, who, along with contributor Katie Pavlich, had this to say, starting at the 2:13 mark, in the second video below:
PAVLICH: The most important thing here is that this is not something that’s far left, and only isolated to the far left- This is condoned by the mainstream left. You have the Sierra Club now that is going out and saying ‘It’s OK for there to be civil disobedience over the protests of the Keystone pipelines. So it’s not that it’s just isolated to the far left, this is something that’s mainstream, and we’ve seen it before.
KELLY (interrupting): I love that here, this group is upset because others protested in an inappropriate way, and were being held to account, and they protest in an inappropriate way, to object to the fact that there were criminal penalties to what their friends did. They come out and said, this group with the torches: Solidarity means attack. Solidarity means attack. How about on abortion clinics? Does solidarity mean attack when the pro-lifers go out to the abortion clinics, and you know, talk to the people? Then the left goes nuts about people, you know, expressing their “solidarity.”
PAVLICH: Well, this is the problem, and this is the key that you see throughout all these protests. Whether it’s environmental or on any other issue. The key here is that they don’t believe property destruction is violence, and they also don’t believe in private property. Se we do see these instances of them trespassing on corporate property as the reason they were there in the first place, because these three activists got arrested for trespassing on corporate property. And we also see them trespassing on private property and saying “It’s not violence, we have the right to do this!” They don’t believe in private property rights.
Well, if these two are concerned about “inappropriate protesting,” they seriously need to have a chat with their colleague Jesse Watters. They may have forgotten, but we have not, his predatory behavior toward liberal Amanda Terkel, then a blogger for Think Progress, in 2009. Terkel explains:
Watters and his camera man accosted me at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, in Winchester, VA, which is a two-hour drive from Washington, DC. My friend and I were in this small town for a short weekend vacation and had told no one about where we were going. I can only infer that the two men staked out my apartment and then followed me for two hours. Looking back, my friend and I remember seeing their tan SUV following us for much of the trip.
As a matter of fact, Watters has a history of ambushing victims – for the sole purpose of humiliating them on national television. We’d love to know why Kelly thinks is so appropriate.
But Kelly’s double standardwas nothing compared to Greg Gutfeld, who had this little rant going:
Wacky threats from eco-maniacs are nothing new. Lucky for them, their goals are sanctioned by the media academic complex, who never seem to mind extremism if it serves their faculty lounge assumptions. Crazy always gets a pass, as long as it’s progressive, but the Tea Party? Now those are the extremists. Those tricorn hats could take out an eye. You could get food poisoning from the potato salad!
Yep, as the media maggots paint conservatives as extreme, they turn a blind eye to the mutants in their midst, who actually show up at people’s houses with torches and masks- Look at these fools! It’s like the Olympics for losers! Look, it’s no surprise the left creates more bombers than Lockheed, for the romantic notions of violence gives them a wide berth. It’s why a Tea Partier will never get tenure, but a terrorist will.
So how will president Obama respond to such allies? Who knows- He takes credit for the oil boom, while condemning actual oil. The guy flips more often than a spatula. But maybe he’s scared- Even a president knows that when it comes to crazies, his side is way nuttier than elephant poop.
The same Fox News that welcomes Ted Nugent, even after he suggested he’d like to murder President Obama and Hillary Clinton, the employs as Gutfeld’s co-host a woman who demanded her fans punch an Obama supporter in the face? Or the one whose website, Fox Nation, regularly allows comments that talk about murdering liberals? That Fox News, Greg?
Maybe they should think about that.
