Another week, another slew of outrageous quotes from Fox News pundits and guests. This week, you’ve got some more tough choices, dear readers. You’ve got Dennis Miller discussing “closeted” Muslims, Guy Benson dangerously suggesting young people would be better off going without health insurance, Elisabeth Hasselbeck revealing that television and air conditioning is the “ugly side of entitlements” and more.
Here for your consideration are this week’s nominees:
Dennis Miller, discussing anti-gay attitudes in Islamic nations:
“They ought to spend some of that oil money on therapy. Because, you know, my feeling is they’re all one tumbler click away from being full-bore, firemen-calendar-on-the-refrigerator gay themselves.
… These people are more closeted than Patty Hearst when she got kidnapped. You know what I mean? …For God’s sake, Billy, if they glimpse a chick’s ankle, they’re supposed to take their eye out with a spork. What happens if they ever do actually have to ogle a dangler? What the hell do they have to do to themselves then?”
Zeeda Andrews, an organizer for “Ride for the Constitution,” explaining the purpose of her group’s protest during a friendly interview with Greta Van Susteren: “What we want is, we want the president of the United States removed from office. He is a threat to our national security. He is a threat to our way of life. He is a threat to our future generations.”
“General” Ernest Lee, giving his vision of the “Ride for the Constitution” demonstration, as Megyn Kelly listened appreciatively and without challenge:
"Every problem in this country, none of ‘em can be fixed by government, Megyn, because the government has caused ‘em all and we’ve had enough! …We are looking for an Egypt-like moment here. Not with just 30-35 million people but from coast to coast, over a hundred million people, getting together, getting out on the road or just staying home and not spending any money for three days."
Elisabeth Hasselbeck displaying either stunning ignorance or stunning dishonesty in describing the origin of the term “Obamacare” as something dreamed up by Democrats to glorify President Obama when, in reality, it was a term coined by Republicans to demean the Affordable Care Act.
"We have now a product. …Let’s call it “Obamacare” ‘cause it’s brilliant. That’s what happened, right? So they say, “Let’s sell something to everybody,” because that’s indeed what’s happening… “And we’re gonna call it Obamacare. Why? Well, everything ‘Obama’ people liked not too long ago. Obama hats, Obama bibs, Obama shirts. We’re gonna sell this, too, under ‘Obamacare.’” It’s the worst nickname given to anything in the history of this nation."
Elisabeth Hasselbeck, after playing a clip of John Stossel interviewing welfare recipients who said they have televisions and air conditioning: “John Stossel checking into that and exposing the ugly side of entitlements.”
Guy Benson, misrepresenting the Affordable Care Act and suggesting that young people would do better if they just didn’t get health insurance until they get sick:
“If (millennials) say, ‘Forget it I’m going to wait, pay the relatively cheap tax and then if I get sick and if I get into an accident, then the insurers have to take me because I have a pre-existing condition,’ it just makes more sense to do that …from a dollars and cents perspective. I mean, I’m not trying to make a political point there. I’m trying to make an economic point. And a lot of people are realizing that.”
