Fox News has conveniently forgotten that we invaded Iraq under false pretenses and is now making all the casualties President Obama’s fault. At least, that’s what a guest told host Jeanine Pirro as she ate up every word.
It’s a sickening testament to the power of the right-wing messaging machine that such a thing could even be possible but here we are.
On Justice with Judge Jeanine last night, retired U.S. Marine Nick Powers, discussed the Obama administration’s strategy in Iraq. Clearly, he had no first-hand knowledge on the subject. His only qualification seemed to be that he has served in Iraq (pre-ISIS) and he hates Obama.
“Did you feel that you had the full support of the American government behind you when you were there (in Iraq)?” Pirro asked,
“Back when Bush was president? Yes,” Powers said.
Remember, Bush is not just the guy who sent the troops into harm's way under false pretenses but he had a Secretary of Defense who painted an overly-optimistic picture of the invasion, then shrugged off troops’ concerns about the lack of properly armed vehicles with the flippant remark: “You go to war with the army you have---not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time.” That’s the president Powers thinks fully supported him?
Apparently so. Earlier in the discussion, Powers said about Obama, "This administration has done nothing but lie since Day 1."
Rather than point out the foibles of the Bush administration, Pirro pressed for more Obama criticism by asking how military members “feel about their service now.”
Powers laughed. “I don’t think you’re going to find too positive of a number for Obama.” He said Military Times found an approval rating of “like 13%." Actually, the number was 15%. However, as CNN reported, that is not a scientific poll. A scientific poll of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans found a 32% approval rating.
Predictably, Pirro accepted Powers’ invalid statistic without question. She must have been too busy looking forward to her next prod for a Powers attack. This one was over Obama’s announced decision to delay a campaign to “take back” Mosul until the fall. “Why would they make that public?” Pirro asked, as if she thought Powers would have a clue, as opposed to an anti-Obama opinion/GOP talking point. Nor did she question whether the original plan for a spring campaign had been undermined by Republican attacks in the first place.
Nor did Powers. “Loose lips sink ships, it’s true,” he accused. But he took it a step further by blaming Obama for all the bloodshed in Iraq.
Powers: Obama’s whole goal to win the second election, “I’m pulling everybody out.” Correct? And he did it, despite everybody saying, “No, no, no.” And now look at what ISIS has done.
All of my friends that died, all of the troops that have bled and sweat in Iraq to free those people from tyranny are now being oppressed and murdered even more because of this man’s decision. This blood is on Obama’s hands and our politicians.
Regardless of what you think about the withdrawal of our troops in Iraq, there are other factors that led to the rise of ISIS including the unnecessary invasion, in the first place, which opened a Pandora’s Box of sectarianism that spawned ISIS.
But, of course, Pirro didn’t mention that, either.
If Powers has not been offered a contract with Fox yet, he almost surely will be soon.
Watch it below, from last night’s Justice with Judge Jeanine.
With this kind of treasonous stupidity out there, maybe it really is time for the draft.
Oh. It doesn’t hurt when the criticism is directed at a Black Democrat. For FoxNoise, that’s just another day. Even at the height of the Dubya (p)residency, liberal/progressive criticism of Dubya never reached the level of sheer derangement that’s on daily display on FoxNoise.
Maybe if he’d spent half as much time questioning his beloved President back in 2003 as he’s doing now with Obama, all the current troubles wouldn’t be taking place. But no. Partisanship always trumps thought when it comes to right-wingers.
He’s an EMBARASSMENT to the Marine Corps and I think that his retirement pay should be diverted to Homeland Security. (Obviously he doesn’t hate the Obama Administration enough to stop taking money from it.)
