During his press conference today, President Obama called on Fox News' Ed Henry. Before completing his question, Henry said, "Merry Christmas, by the way." Do you think this was just a good wish or a gotcha question to catch President Obama on camera as a possible Christmas enemy?
Given Henry's history of gotcha questions and his record of creatively advancing Fox News memes, I suspect he was looking for a gotcha.
Regardless, President Obama replied without hesitation, "Merry Christmas to you" in response.

Ed Henry is a putz! Since Faux News is really just for entertainment, and not a legitimate news source, I wouldn’t have expected anything less from the CNN castaway whose only claim to fame is that he has a front seat in the White House Press room.

From truman’s comment:
“This was just another shot in the Fux Noise eternal War on Christmas. Our President should have told Ed to go fuck himself.”
Hmmmmmmmmm, not a bad idea Truman. After all, Bully O’Lielly WOULDN’T EVEN THINK about ambushing President Obama with his toady Jesse Watters, because if he did, the Secret Service would INSTANTLY ARREST HIM RIGHT ON THE SPOT!

I’m gonna use the term “loaded comment,” because it’s far more honest. Regardless of how Obama answered, it would become a War on Christmas talking point. Obama said Merry Christmas, so it’s somehow a victory. If he had said Happy Holidays, or Seasons Greetings… War were declared.
Even if Henry was honest with it, I doubt the rest of Fox will be.

It was obviously a gotcha, and President Obama wasn’t about to play that game. Unless there are clips of all the reporters slipping a “Merry Christmas” into their questions, and I strongly doubt that there are.
Henry’s trick is usually to try to get Jay Carney to play on Fox News’ turf by phrasing his questions in a manner that presupposes Fox News’ assumptions. Or he just gets confrontational to get that bit of footage on the prime time pundit shows.
There’s a reason that most Fox News contributors don’t work elsewhere afterward. Actual journalism professionals don’t look kindly on this kind of behavior.
