Despite the diversity of American religious affiliations, the allegedly "fair & balanced" Fox "News" channel channels almost exclusively the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. While liberal, Protestant clergy (many of whom are, gasp, women) and rabbis are conspicuously absent on Fox, Catholic priest Father Jonathan Morris, formerly of the wealthy and disgraced Legionaries of Christ, has a Sunday gig on Fox & Friends as well as appearances on other shows on Fox News and Fox Business where he preaches the right wing gospel of "supply side Jesus." Many, if not a majority, of Fox's hosts are Catholics. So who do ya think provided some Christmas inspiration, as well as reinforcing the patented Fox "war on Christmas" propaganda, this morning on Fox & Friends - why it was NY Catholic potentate, Archbishop Timothy Dolan. Seems like Rupert Murdoch's papal knighthood is reaping some sweet earthly rewards for the one true Fox church.
Steve Doocy, one of Ailes' stable of Catholics, began the segment with a comment about how the "true meaning of Christmas tends to get lost in the commercialization of the holidays." He introduced his guest, Archbishop Timothy Dolan, who is head of the ultra conservative United States Council of Catholic Bishops, to provide a "special Christmas message." But before Dolan could do a "preview" of his Christmas speech, Doocy asked him if he believed that there is war on Christmas. Dolan, looking like he's been ingesting a prodigious amount of Christmas nog and cookies responded that the war on Christmas is a subset of the war on Christians. He claimed that "there is desire by some to put duck tape over the mouth of people who speak with religious convictions." (And in Dolan's case, that's a lot of duck tape.) When Dolan asserted that these evildoers are "dumbing down" Christmas, Doocy added that they "try to take Christ out of Christmas." A red faced (seasonal color?) Dolan continued to urge that we not lose the religious reason for Christmas. Doocy and Dolan talked about the pros and cons of gift giving.
Dolan then provided his Christmas message; i.e. that you're not alone in your travails because God knows what you're experiencing. Dolan then did a little homily on the "Incarnation." He said that he's glad that non-Christians are celebrating Christmas while, one assumes, thinking that they're all going to hell. And in a truly ROFLMAO moment, Dolan said that as God's children "we need to treat everyone with dignity and respect." Scuse me Bishop Tim, but you're saying this on Fox News which treats those not in the right wing GOP flock with absolute contempt. Their hate site, Fox Nation, engages in race/immigrant/gay/Muslim baiting which results in ugly comments which aren't always removed. Doocy just gushed over what a pleasure it was to see the prelate.
I was waiting for Doocy to kiss his ring after he, metaphorically speaking, kissed one of Dolan's body (and a large one it is) parts.
Last time we saw the bishop, he and Doocy were pimping Catholic schools. Now they are pimping the Fox war on Christmas. Fox News =VaticanMedia? Or maybe just USCCB media!
Dolan is a phony. His religion has nothing to do with the real Jesus. The “Rock” claim by the Roman Church is a load of crap.
The Church is anti-Jesus. Do your history.
The fact that Jesus spoke of social justice, not religion, does not fit in with an Empire of Obedience like the RCC.
